The Christmas markets in Tallinn are considered to be among the most beautiful in Europe.
It is no coincidence that it finished in thirteenth place in the special ranking drawn up by Best European Destinations.
Magic, charm and a fairytale atmosphere characterize Christmas in Tallinn. An event that invades the narrow streets of the elegant historic center, its period buildings, splendid architectural buildings, churches and museums.
A Christmas full of tradition, among stalls and small artisan shops offering small Estonian artistic creations. Without forgetting the most authentic flavors of Christmas in Tallin, with the best products of Estonian gastronomy. Everywhere you can breathe the delicious smell of gingerbread and glögg.
To make everything more special, a full calendar of exhibitions and cultural events in the main squares, museums and churches.
The little ones, on the other hand, will be able to admire the sparkling Christmas tree in the central square. Or, skate on the scenic Harju Hill.
The historic center and Raekoja plats are the beating heart of Christmas.
In front of the splendid Gothic Town Hall, in the center of the square, stands the majestic Christmas tree, the largest in all of Estonia. A tradition that dates back to 1441!
Beautiful and sparkling and, without a doubt, the main protagonist of Christmas, surrounded by around 60 wooden stalls.
This is the perfect place for a personal gift, or to a loved one. Here you can buy handmade wreaths, traditional Estonian sweets, honey, sheepskin rugs, small artifacts, and unique handicrafts. You will have the opportunity to attend real workshops to admire these beautiful creations live.
The markets are open every day, from 12 to 10pm. Hot drinks are served from Sunday to Thursday until 10pm, and on Friday and Saturday until 11pm.
Here, as elsewhere, Christmas is a moment of aggregation. Museums and Churches offer many events, day and night, for the whole family.
Do not miss the evocative concerts in the main churches of the historic center.
Musical groups, brass bands, bells and dance companies will brighten the days. Appointment every Friday and Saturday from 17:00 to 19:00 and on Sunday, from 12:00 to 14:00 on the central stage. Many artists will perform including the folk dance groups Sõleke and Leigarid, and the dance companies JJ Street and TantsuGeen.
In the crowded Town Hall Square the little ones will not fail to glimpse the silhouette of Santa Claus. From December 1st, Santa Claus will welcome the youngest children in his cozy house, from 12 to 18.
The Ice Rink Uisupark is set up every year on the picturesque Harju Hill, near the St. Nicholas Church. The romantic outdoor skating rink is one of the most awaited moments for young and old.
Fun guaranteed even for beginners.
It is open every day from mid-November to the end of March 2025, from 10:00 to 22:00 (the opening hours vary on some specific days).
On Friday and Saturday the ticket costs €9.90 for adults and €8 for children aged 4 to 15. On other days the cost is €8 for adults and €6 for children aged 4 to 15. The price for renting skates is €5.50.
