WHERE: Verges, Spain
WHEN: 17th April 2025
The Spanish, as we know, are a devout people deeply attached to their roots, culture and folklore.
Elements that, in all likelihood, reach their maximum expression throughout the country during Holy Week.
Precisely in this period, in the small town of Verges, it is possible to admire an event that is at least singular: the Dance of Death.
The festival, which features 4 skeletons that dance and parade to the sound of drums, has very ancient origins. Already in medieval times it was quite common in many areas of Western Europe and, above all, in Catalonia.
The Dance of Death of Verges is, today, a representation of the traditional procession of Holy Thursday of the small Catalan town. It has increasingly taken on the connotations of a national event, attracting a growing number of tourists and curious people every year.
It has been declared a Traditional Festival of National Interest.
