Today, the Christmas in Munich is synonymous with tradition, quality and great suggestion. Christkindlmarkt am Sendlinger Tor, in the beautiful Marienplatz, is undoubtedly the most famous, but, during the Advent season, the choice is really wide and evocative.
During the Advent season, you can breathe all the charm and the magical atmosphere of Christmas. The air is pervaded by the scent of biscuits, cinnamon and mulled wine. The streets, the squares, the buildings are all a whirl of sparkling lights and colors. Large decorated trees. Christmas in Munich is truly magical and evocative.
The stalls are an invitation to visit and rummage, looking for the best deal. Decorations, souvenirs, handicrafts, gastronomy, and much more. In addition to the traditional Munich Christmas markets, there will be plenty of shows and events for all ages. Children and families can spend extraordinary moments of joy and celebration.
You can take a trip to the Magical Christmas Village. In Tollwood, a rich program of events and live music awaits you. And, again, a medieval flea market, the ever-present ice rink and even evening bus tours to the Franz Josef Strauss airport.
In the city center, Altdstadt area, one of the most beloved markets. They are appreciated for its extremely welcoming atmosphere, and for the quality, and quantity, of objects, coming from all over the world. This is the oldest Christmas market in the whole city.
The large arch, with the inscription Christkindlmarkt, all lit up, welcomes visitors. Among the many stalls present, there are spices, teas and perfumed oriental oils, jewels, semi-precious stones and chests. Very beautiful, the original cribs of Tyrol, Peru and the Andes. Naturally, there is no lack of decorations that you can take home. And then, candles made in a meticulous way, an incredible variety of hand-worked and hand-carved soaps; sparkling crystal glasses of Russia.
The greediest, however, can savor the excellent sausages, and Bavarian gastronomic products. To drink, excellent craft beer, and mulled wine.

From Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 21:00.
Sunday, from 10:00 to 20:00.

For over four decades, Schwabinger Weihnachtsmarkt has been the choice for connoisseurs. In the Münchner Freiheit area, you will find really unique and interesting pieces: objects, art, crafts and gastronomy.
In the big tree, you’ll find lots of colorful hearts hanging with the names and wishes of the children. The Schwabinger flea market is open from 29/11 to 24/12/2019, with the following times:
From Monday to Friday, from 12:00 to 20:30.

It is a real reference point for all lovers of the genre. It is one of the traditional historical Munich Christmas markets. It takes place at Wittelsbacher Platz, not far from Odeonsplatz.
A truly fascinating and evocative place. You will literally be catapulted into the age of knights, noblewomen and minstrels. To give further authenticity, all the stalls are made of antique wood, inlaid, handmade, with medieval engravings. You will find goldsmiths, lantern builders, scribes, or glass artisans, ready to show all the construction phases, from antiquity to today.
In this market you really breathe incredible magic. Impossible to remain indifferent.
You can also buy handicraft items of fine workmanship.

Defining it one of the most interesting Christmas markets in Munich is really reductive. The name itself, Tollwood Winterfestival, leaves no room for misunderstanding. Tollwood is a real event in the event.
It is a festival of international appeal that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
The Festival has always stood out for the extraordinary cultural offer of music, theater, cabaret and art, with an eye to the environment and technology. This has earned him the biological certification of the gastronomic festival, from the winter 2003; while, in the 2006, “Bio for children” was developed, in collaboration with the Department of Health and the Environment of the City of Monaco. Another unmissable place, during the Christmas in Munich is Chinesischen Turm. Magic, charm and suggestive atmosphere are the visiting card of this beautiful market, in the heart of Englischer Garten, the English Gardens. Among the various stands, you’ll be spoiled for choice. The offer ranges from traditional artisanal products to Bavarian culinary delicacies. Obviously, with the cold, a glass of warm wine is ideal.
At Chinesischen Turm there are also two climbing slopes for winter sports enthusiasts. Among the various initiatives, we recommend the romantic tour of the English Gardens, in winter, during each weekend; the excursion lasts about an hour.
For the little ones, the Carosello, a nostalgic carousel in wood, fairy tales and stories, curling with expert athletes. At the top of the Chinese Tower, a restaurant with specially decorated rooms awaits you. Here, you can stop and enjoy the Christmas menu.

Not just markets. During the Christmas in Munich, many events are scheduled in the Bavarian city.
At Marienplatz and in the historic center, the 08 and 22 December 2019, do not miss the traditional, evocative, parade of the Krampus. A parade with over 300 disturbing figures. More info, on our official page dedicated to the event.
Sternplatz it is the wonderful Stars Square, in Rindermarkt. A beautiful, romantic and nostalgic place, where you can capture the true essence of Christmas. The square turns into a glittering forest, illuminated by the stars.
Magical and welcoming, it will also amaze you with the peace and the relaxing atmosphere you can breathe. Among the many stalls in the square, you will find many traditional handicrafts, and many gourmet delicacies. To quench your thirst, so much good beer, and the local Feuerzangenbowle, a drink similar to punch.
The ADVENT MUSIC is an annual event much awaited by tourists and inhabitants. Every day, starting from the 17:30, you can listen to live music from the town hall balcony. On Christmas Eve, at 12, the music group Grünwalder Turmbläser will sing Christmas carols.
And of course, can not miss the ICE RINK. From November 24, Karlplatz becomes an authentic illuminated winter paradise. Guaranteed fun for young and old.
A really wide track, with its 750 square meters. You can rent skates, and move on the ice to the rhythm of music. The track is running, every day, from the 22/11/2019 to the 12/01/2020, from the 10:30 to the 22:00. The 24 and 31 December, closes at 16:00.
Prices vary according to time and age. With entry up to 13:00, you pay 4,50€ (adults); after the 19:30, the price rises to 8,00€ per adult.
From the 28/11 to the 14/12, in the Ratstrinkstube beautifully decorated, every day children from 6 to 12 can play, draw, create, sing and prepare for Christmas with the CELESTIAL LABORATORY. Two daily appointments, at 14:30 and 16:30. Each activity lasts about 90 ‘.
From 02 to 20 December, from Monday al Friday, in Schwabinger, there will be many activities such as puppet theater, crafts, storytelling and clowns for young visitors. Free entry from 15:00 to 16:00.
From the 01/12 to the 10/12, CHRISTKINDLPOSTAMT The post office of the Christmas market, in the passage to the courtyard (Prunkhof) of the town hall at Marienplatz, will be taken over the letters for the Child Jesus. Appointment from 12:00 to 18:00.
From the 30/11 to 23/12, children and adults can take a suggestive tour, about half an hour, aboard the suggestive CHRISTKINDLTRAM. On board the Christmas market tram, you will find mulled wine, children’s punch, Christmas treats and Christmas music. The tram travels from Monday to Friday from 15:30 to 19:00 (last run) and on weekends from 11:00 to 19:30 (last run) starting every 30 minutes (00:00 – 00:30) from Sendlinger Tor.
