In July and August, Amsterdam is tinged with rainbow. Love, respect, equality, tolerance. The Dutch capital opens its doors to the 28 July, with one of the most anticipated and evocative gay-friendly events. However, considering the recent vicissitudes, with the cancellation due to the pandemic, the conditional is a must!
Vienna. Madrid. Berlin…. To each city, its parade. Amsterdam Gay Pride, however, has a truly unique charm, thanks to the Canal Parade. And, precisely in this, it is its uniqueness. Fantastic boats that cross the placid waters of the Amstel. Unique scenographies. And that bit of madness and eccentricity, which only a Gay Pride can give away.
An event that celebrates, in over 7 days of events, love, friendship, tolerance, respect. Values that do not belong to the chosen few, but to all of us. Not just LGTB.
This is the spirit of Amsterdam Gay Pride. An event of international appeal, in which freedom is the watchword.
PRACTICAL INFO
HOW TO GET
From the main European destinations, Amsterdam can be easily reached by plane, landing at the international airport of Schiphol. From here, by public transport, you can easily reach the city center.
The beating heart of Amsterdam Gay Pride 2023, will be the central Dam Square, easily accessible on foot and by public transport. By tram and bus, you can get off at the stop of the same name. By metro, Amsterdam Centraal is a short drive away.
CANAL PARADE
It is, without a doubt, the most awaited moment of the event. Beautiful. Suggestive. Colored. Every year, the parade attracts thousands of visitors from all over the globe.
It takes place on Saturday 03rd, from 12:30. The parade along the canal follows the route Oosterdok – Nieuwe Herengracht – Amstel – Prinsengracht – Westerdok. The arrival time is scheduled for 17:00.
Obviously you can attend the parade from the numerous points in the area. The best observation points are, of course, the various bridges crossed during the journey.
The Parade attracts many visitors. Assisting in the first rows can be quite difficult. You must arrive at least a couple of hours in advance!
PROGRAM AMSTERDAM GAY PRIDE 2024
From Saturday 27th July to Sunday 04th August, there are more than 300 events scheduled in all the city. Street party. Clubbing. Night Party.
The most important clubs on the city’s LGTB scene open their doors to Amsterdam Gay Pride.
Pride March, on July 27th, marks the official start of the event. Appointment at Amstelveld at 11:00. Great LGTB walk from 11am to 1.00pm.
Also on Saturday 27th, appointment from 14:00 to 22:00 with Pride Park, in the beautiful setting of the Vondelpark. Here, numerous activities await you such as open-air theater, sports, shows, art and much more. From 28th to 30th July, from 14:00 to 23:00, Pride at the Beach is a real event within an event. In the location of Zandvoort a lot awaits you for fun, sun and diversity. There will be parades, music, culture, a walk on the beach, art, drag queens, yoga, movies and dancing.
From Wednesday 31th July to Thursday 01st August, free admission to the open-air cinema. However, only 400 seats are available. Meet at the Mercatorplein at 8.00pm. From 02nd to 04th August, from 16 to midnight, throughout Amsterdam, there will be processions and street parades.
Big closing on Sunday 04th, in Dam Square with the Pride Closing Party. Shows and performances by Dutch and international artists, and of course DJ sets. The best way to say hello to Amsterdam Gay Pride 2024.
