Christmas in New York City is truly magical and evocative. The festive air invades every corner of the city. Sounds and fragrances. The windows are a swirl of lights and colors. Especially along 5th Avenue: here, you can admire the pomp of the department stores. The atmosphere is truly unique.
The legendary Macy’s dedicates an entire floor to Christmas in New York, Santaland. Here the little ones can be photographed in the company of Santa Claus.
Christmas starts with the Thanksgiving Day parade, and the passing of Santa Claus, the last Thursday of November on the main streets. After Thanksgiving, Christmas preparations begin. However, it is only with the lighting of the big tree at the Rockefeller Center that Christmas officially begins in the Big Apple. From this moment, a myriad of events are taking place throughout the city.
Appointment on 03rd December 2025, at Rockfeller Plaza, with the inauguration ceremony. The lights of the most famous tree in the world, about 20 meters long, and 7.5 meters wide will be lit. The ceremony lasts a couple of hours, starting at 19:00. Suggestive choir songs, shows, performances and lots of music await you. The ceremony is FREE. If you want to participate, you will have to arrive early in the afternoon, about 15:00.

Walking through the heart of New York City’s shopping district and want to have fun skating on an ice rink? The Bryant Park rink is the perfect solution, located on 42nd Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues. A picturesque and scenic rink, it’s incredibly crowded because it’s FREE! Skate rental, of course, is subject to a fee, with prices starting at $19.

The famous Brooklyn residential district is famous for the Christmas lights and decorations of the houses and private residential villas. Every year, residents compete to offer the best show. These lights, every year, attract thousands of visitors and even, special tours have been created that depart from Manhattan. Don’t miss the lighting of the beautiful Borough Hall Plaza Christmas tree in the district.

The 125 stalls at the Bank of America Winter Village in Bryant Park will open on October 24, 2025, and will run until January 1, 2026. As noted, you’ll also find a spectacular ice rink, completely free. The markets are open daily, including holidays, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Union Square, smaller than Bryant Park, offers no less variety or quality. It’s undoubtedly a must-see for Christmas in New York. The markets are open daily from November 13 to December 24, 2025, from morning until 8:00 p.m.
From December 2 to 31, 2025, you can also shop at the Columbus Circle Holiday Market, near Central Park. Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., it’s a large urban space festively transformed for the occasion, with shops and stalls. You can buy clothing, jewelry, artifacts, sweets, and much more.
Kanoa recommends, for Christmas evenings in the Big Apple, to attend one of the many musicals held in the city. Among other things, in December, the classics such as The Nutcracker and the Rockettes show are added.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, starring the Rockettes, is one of the most famous Christmas shows in the city. Includes Santa Claus, the Nutcracker and the Nativity. The program varies every year, so that the show is always unique every year. Appointment every day, from 12th November 2025 to 04th January 2026, with 2 or more daily shows. Ticket prices range from as low as $66 for seats on the 3rd mezzanine to as high as $387 (or more) for seats closest to the stage.
