A celebration that has lasted more than 30 years and has evolved over time to the point of being considered one of the most renowned in the entire region.
It seems like a century has passed since the first float appeared in Saviano, a small town on the Vesuvius not far from Naples. And it was only in 1980 that the first uncoordinated parades were seen through the streets of the historic center.
Thus, from a small street event, the Carnival of Saviano gradually carved out an increasingly important space. In just a few years, the number of floats increased to 10, reaching 13 in 2000!
All thanks to the art and skill of master craftsmen, thanks to whom today it is possible to admire exquisitely crafted figures made with papier-mâché, wood, iron and many other materials.
The over 100,000 attendees registered at each edition are proof of the success of the Carnival of Saviano, an increasingly engaging celebration where everyone is invited to participate.
PRACTICAL INFO
HOW TO GET THERE
Saviano is a small Vesuvian town located just under 30 kilometers from Naples.
It can be easily reached by car and public transport.
Every day EAV guarantees regular connections with Naples Piazza Garibaldi. Due to modernization works, to get to Saviano by train you must stop at San Giorno a Cremano or Pomigliano d’Arco and continue towards Baiano.
Arriving by car, just before the center you will find several parking areas. Prices are generally around €5 for the day. Attention: during peak periods (weekends and Shrove Tuesday) it is advisable to arrive in the early afternoon.
THE PROGRAM OF THE CARNIVAL OF SAVIANO 2025
The Carnival of Saviano skilfully mixes tradition and innovation. The lighting of the “Fucarone of Sant’Antuono” almost officially decrees its beginning. The following period is a succession of events and celebrations that invade the streets of the center.
Also for the 45th edition there will be no shortage of illustrious guests and artists who will perform during the event. The most important districts of the city will propose, as per tradition, suggestive folk evenings until midnight with many street food proposals.
The “Carnival under the stars” should also be confirmed, which from 9 pm to midnight, will make you dance and let loose with DJs and local guests in Piazzale E. De Nicola.
THE PARADES
This year too there will be 3 dates: Sunday 23 February and 02 March and Tuesday 04 March 2024.
On Sunday 23 February there will only be the positioning of the allegorical floats. On February 2nd and 4th, instead, from 3pm to midnight all the allegorical floats and masked groups will parade through the streets of the center.
The floats are positioned in the morning in the circuit of the historic center and all leave at 3pm from their respective Contrada.
TICKETS
Saviano is above all a Carnival to experience first hand. And not just to admire. In fact, more and more people are involved in the playful and festive spirit of the Vesuvian town. Both the locals (particularly linked to the event) and tourists. And more and more people flock to the event in masks: children and adults.
Participating in the Carnival of Saviano is completely free. No ticket is required to admire the allegorical floats that you can admire up close.
It is not mandatory to dress up but, as mentioned, it is preferable to fully enter into the spirit of the event.
