In August, and September, the splendid Sitges shows its most suggestive and animated side, with two extraordinary events dedicated to the patron saints of the city.

August is, without doubt, the crucial period, with the celebrations in honor of Sant Bartomeu, the day 24. The event, better known as the Sitges Festa Major, takes place during 2 days, with a very rich ceremonial and program. The 21 day, the street cry, that is the opening speech, officially opens the event

Lights, sounds and colors await you throughout the period. Extraordinary parades and processions, including incredible characters, demons and giant heads. So much gstaronomia, as per tradition. And, above all, the incredible pyrotechnic shows, a truly magical moment that will make you stand up, for a very long time.
You will also be able to admire the Moixiganga, a spectacular traditional dance of Sitges, in which scenes of the Passion of Christ are represented.

The Sitges Festa Major is an event for adults and children, to discover a fantastic city, and the folklore of a whole country. An opportunity, moreover, to appreciate the Costa Daurada, not only for its splendid beaches.

PRACTICAL INFO

HOW TO GET

Given the proximity to the airport of Barcelona-El Prat, the plane is the best solution to get to Sitges. The city, in fact, is about 27 kilometers from the international airport, one of the most important and busiest in Europe.
By plane, you can reach El Prat, from the main European and non-European destinations. By car, or by public transport, you can reach the town of the Costa Daurada.
Directly at the airport, you can rent the car that best suits your tastes, and pockets.

By public transport, you will first need to reach the center of Barcelona and then continue your journey to Sitges by bus.

Alternatively, you can call at the smallest Reus international airport, distant about 60km.

SITGES FESTA MAJOR 2023 PROGRAM

23 August, at the 12:00, entry into the city, up Calle Sant Francesc, of grinderm musicians, who reach Town Hall Square.
At the 14:15, the beautiful procession among the Gegant, the Cabezudos with their immense heads, the Dragon, the Eagle, the demons and others. It starts from Plaça del Ajuntament, up to Cap de la Vila, with final dance of Moixiganga.
A civic procession, around the 17:00, crosses the streets of Sitges.
At the 23:00, along the Walk and the beach, the suggestive fireworks display, followed by the Verbena, the eve party, with dances and lots of music.

24 August it starts already from the first light of dawn, with entertainment and folk dances in the city. Follow the holy mass in honor of Sant Bartomeu, shows, and the incredible scenery of the castellers, with extraordinary human towers!
In the afternoon, space for a new procession, concluded with the return of the saint to the parish church. In plaza del Baluard, among folkloristic dances, in front of the church, the fireworks show starts.
