You say Flamenco and immediately you think of Andalusia. Right here, this true form of art finds its maximum expression.
If you want to attend the most important Flamenco festival in the world, you should make a stop in Jerez de la Frontera, a beautiful city in the heart of Andalusia, about 100km from beautiful Seville.
Each year, the city hosts the Jerez Festival, an event that attracts numerous spectators, and media, from all over the country. This year it reaches its 28th edition.
An event where you can attend more than 50 wonderful performances in which song, dance and “flamenco” guitar are the common denominator. Artists of great fame and depth will give life to performances of extraordinary quality. An extraordinary festival where artists and spectators will be able to share their love for flamenco and Spanish dance.
The Festival is also the right opportunity to learn this art form up close. During the two weeks, there will be activities, workshops and courses. And above all, you can admire a beautiful city. Not just Flamenco. Monuments, museums, palaces, neighborhoods, botegas…
Museums, theaters and even renowned Bodegas. There are numerous locations of the Jerez Festival, all quite central.
The main location will be the Villamarta Theater, declared in 1988 a Cultural Interest. It is located at Pl. Romero Martínez, 20, near the central Plaza del Arenal, a short distance from the Cathedral.
You can easily reach the theater on foot, even from the train station, which is about ten minutes away.
The XXVIII edition takes place from 23 February to 09 March, for a total of 16 days.
Here are some of the unmissable performances at the Villamarta Theater. Start at 8.30pm for all major shows.
Friday 23rd we start with Sara Baras, who will inaugurate the festival with her new preview show. She replies the following day. Instead, it ends on March 9th with Manuela Carrasco and her farewell tour.
Among the numerous artists on the bill there will be La Moneta, Joaquín Grilo, Beatriz Morales e Agujeta Chico, Úrsula López, Mercedes Ruiz.
Tickets can be purchased directly through the official website. Prices vary depending on the location.
Prices for the Villamarta theater for the shows of Sara Baras, Compania Joaquin Grilo, Farruquito y Juan El Moreno and Manuela Carrasco vary from a minimum of 30 to a maximum of 40 depending on the seat. For other shows the price varies from €27 to €37. The processing and management costs, to be added to the total, are €1.75 per ticket.
It is advisable to book well in advance because the availability is rather limited, and the demand is quite high.
