Carnival meets… New Year!
Every year, in the small village of Florø, Norway, locals celebrate the New Year in a somewhat unusual way.
At least for the period.
On New Year’s Eve, at the stroke of midnight, costume parades, processions and allegorical floats invade the streets of the village.
Lights, colors, and lots of fun.
This is Kjippen, or the Carnival of the new year. An event whose roots go back to the 19th century when locals gathered on the street to protest against unjust wages.
Today you will be able to discover a colorful and welcoming Carnival. The warmth of the people will be able to drag you.

HOW TO GET
The plane is the best solution to reach the Norwegian city.
Its regional airport connects Bergen and Oslo, Norway’s two main cities, with daily direct flights.
The airport is located a short distance from the center of Florø.
Also from Bergen it is also possible to arrive by sea.
Bergen is approximately 230km away, on a mixed car-ferry route.
WHAT TO SEE AT KJIPPEN 2024
Appointment at midnight on the dot. All the inhabitants parade through the streets of the city, with particular costumes and masks.
The Clothes and the floats often feature characters and current events as protagonists, targeted through satirical messages.
Parades. Dances and dances. Street theaters keep the atmosphere at Kjippen alive and fun.
A large bonfire is set up at the end of the procession. Here are conveyed the floats, puppets and various posters that will be burned at the stake!
WHERE TO SLEEP
If you want to attend the Kjippen, you will almost necessarily have to stay in the city.
