The tree lighting ceremony takes place every day at 4:30 pm, 5:30 pm, 6:30 pm, 7:30 pm, 8:30 pm, 9:30 pm.
CHRISTMAS IN PRAGUE 2024: THE MARKETS
Loved and visited by an incredible number of adults and children, the Christmas markets of Prague are, without a doubt, the great protagonists of the event. The most popular is the market that takes place in Old Square. Other markets not to be missed during Christmas in Prague, are at Wenceslas Square, Andel and Piazza della Repubblica. STAROMESTSKE NAMESTI
Old Town Square (Staromestske namesti), every year, welcomes a large Christmas tree from the north of the country, from the Krkonose mountains. All sparkling, full of lights, is the most photographed place for selfie and ritual photos. here, you can place your wish ticket for Christmas on one of the many branches. Switching on every day at 16:30 sharp.
In the typical wooden houses that offer Christmas products, you can buy decorations for your Christmas tree and lots of themed items to bring into your homes.
Accomplice the rather rigid temperature, between a flea market and the other, do not miss to taste the goulash and typical treats (Trdlo), Czech muffii, vin brûlé, grog and medovina, a warm honey-based liqueur, really delicious! There are, of course, handicrafts, ideal for your gifts. To accompany your walks, Christmas songs, performances and dance and folk music performances.
The market of Staromestske namesti has been indicated by the American magazine US News & World Report, as the most beautiful in the world!

CHRISTMAS IN PRAGUE: VÁCLAVSKÉ NÁMESTÍ
In Václavské náměstí, long and majestic Wenceslas Square, you can have fun in the many markets that offer many products of all kinds. Extraordinary glance at perfumed candles, precious Bohemian crystals, Czech wooden decorations and much more!
Wenceslas Square is located right in the heart of the city, not far from Old Square. It is a particularly loved and visited place.
During the Christmas season, the sweet tooth can taste the best of Prague gastronomy: roast corn on the cob, grilled sausages, honey gingerbread, roasted chestnuts and mulled wine.
Open every day, from 30th November to 06th January 2025, from 10:00 to 22:00. The food stalls close, however, at midnight.
ANDEL MARKET
Throughout the year, the market of Andel is one of the favorite places for tourists and, above all, by the inhabitants of Prague to make their purchases. A large open-air market with an excellent selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. All the year. The traditional market takes place in the Andel area, near the metro station.
In this wonderful market, you can also buy meat, juices, cosmetics and handicrafts. Also during Advent, up to December 23. In this period, the proposal to expand with traditional Christmas offers, candles and small gifts.
CHRISTMAS IN PRAGUE: OTHER MARKETS
On the subject of Advent, Prague probably has few equals. In addition to the traditional ones, you will find numerous party areas and lots of Prague Christmas markets scattered everywhere.
Do not miss the Castle area, in the upper part of the city, under the stupendous Cathedral. You will find some exceptional markets. Open until 06th January 2025, from Monday to Thursday, from 09:00 to 18:00; the weekend, from 09:00 to 19:00.
Who, instead, was looking for a more intimate area, can not fail to visit Namesty Republiky. Area, in this period, much loved by Prague, to escape from the horde of tourists who invade the streets and squares of the center. Relative tranquility, of course. We are still in one of the most visited cities in Europe. In the immediate vicinity, there is also the Palladium, a beautiful and innovative shopping center, housed in a historic building.
OTHER EVENTS IN CHRISTMAS IN PRAGUE
Not just Christmas markets. Throughout the city, during Advent, there will be lots of events and activities for young and old. From Sunday 01st to Monday 23rd December, starting from 4:10pm, you can admire the evocative Charles Bridge lit up for the occasion.
Thursday 05th is probably the most awaited moment for children, with St. Nicholas Day (Mikula). In the Old Town market, around 16:00, St. Nicholas, accompanied by an angel and a devil, will roam the area asking the children if they have been good during the year. The prize will be a sweet, while, otherwise a … coal.
Another unmissable event for adults and children is the ice rink. In Ovocny trh, in the splendid setting of the historic center, an evocative outdoor ice trail awaits you. Ideal for spending a few hours with the whole family, or friends. Open from 05 December to 31 January 2025, from 10:00 to 21:00. Admission is FREE; you pay only the cost of skate hire: 150CZK for adults, and 50CZK for children.
The day of the Immaculate, 08 December, in Koulova 15, appointment with the traditional IWAP Market, with lots of entertainment, product sales, English used books, Christmas socks, baskets, jewelry and much more. There will be a children’s corner and a space for fundraising. From the 11:00 to the 17:00.
Do not miss, every day, Christmas and traditional songs at Old Square. The little ones will be able to admire puppet shows and watch the animals on the farm close up.
