The evocative Kronborg Castle is the setting for one of the most loved theatrical events in Northern Europe: the Shakespeare Festival.
An extraordinary outdoor event between theater, music and gastronomy.

An event that celebrates one of the greatest writers in history, in a truly unique context, against the backdrop of Kronborg Castle, in Denmark. Every evening, before the show, at 7.15 pm you can enjoy a special introduction by André Andersen, in a single thread between the English writer, Hamlet and Kronborg.

Shakespeare Festival is also an event dedicated to the pleasure of discovery and healthy eating. Picnic awaits you before the festival, at the Castle Park. Bring blankets to lay back on, and order the menu at Cafe Kadetten. You can choose between different menus, with prices from 129 to 169DKK. There are salty fish cakes, vegetarian foods and so much more.

HOW TO GET

Kronborg Castle is located in Helsingør, about 50 km north of Copenhagen.
The Danish capital, therefore, is the ideal starting point to reach the location of the Shakespeare Festival.
By car it takes about 50 minutes, via the E47, to get to your destination. More info on driving in Denmark, from this link.
The parking lots are located about 15 minutes on foot from the Castle.
People in wheelchairs will be able to access with their own car to a separate parking lot, not far from the stage.

Anyone wishing to arrive by public transport will have no difficulty. The best method is, without a doubt, the train. The Regional line takes about an hour from Copenhagen. Get off at Helsingør St. Central Station, and continue for about 15 minutes on foot.

TICKETS AND SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL 2023 PROGRAM

The 2023 edition of the festival will focus on 2 shows. Each performance, as mentioned, will be preceded by an introduction by André Anderson.

It starts on August 03, at 20:00, with “THE STORM, adventurous comedy full of wisdom, humor and wonderful creatures”. With Marie Dalsgaard, Anders Budde Christensen, Sophie Marie Jeppesen, Ari Alexander, directed by Kristoffer Lundberg. Repeats on August 02 and 03. Tickets from 240 to 310DKK.

From 09 to 13 August, “MACBETH IN CONCERT” will take place, a personal and touching reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s classic between music and theater. The star will be musician and frontman Christian Friedel with his band Woods of Birnam. Tickets from 390 to 460DKK.
