Born in 1991, today it is one of the most visited and loved market in Italy, along with Merano, Bressanone and Trento.
Christmas Bolzano is really a fascinating moment. Everywhere you breathe the magic of Christmas. Streets, squares and narrow alleys are lit and festively decorated. The wonderful markets await you, with the typical wooden houses perfectly lit. Christmas Bolzano is an explosion of the senses. You will be literally overwhelmed by the aromas of spices and cinnamon; of biscuits, typical sweets and the inevitable vin brûlé. High quality sweets and gastronomic specialties will offer their maximum expression for your palate. All this, while the music and Christmas carols are sung on the street.
Everything is taken care of in the smallest details. Even private homes are one with the surrounding environment.
Christmas Bolzano is an event especially for children, who will have fun in the many activities, shows and workshops dedicated to them. Another distinctive element is the fact that the organizers have made sure that Advent was lived in an environmentally friendly and environmentally friendly manner. Thanks to this, the Bolzano Christmas Market has obtained the Green Event certification.
Friday 24 November, at 17:00, in the presence of the mayor of the city, a grand opening in Walther Square.
Great anticipation before the fateful hour, with dimmed lights between the stands, which create great expectations. Only the large crib is illuminated. At the 17 in point, cutting the ribbon and turning on the big sparkling tree. Christmas in Bolzano officially begins. Visitors can sample a typical dessert offered by the event’s partner.
The market, in these parts, is synonymous with quality. You will find many exhibitors, and among the various stalls you will be spoiled for choice. Handcrafted products, decorations, ceramics, woodwork, nativity scenes, statuettes and so much more.
The greediest, however, will find many culinary delights. And, of course, the excellent mulled wine, ideal for fighting low temperatures.
The calendar of events and initiatives is rather rich. Do not miss the appointments of live artistic craftsmanship. Every day, the members of the cooperative “Artigiani Atesini” present some traditional crafts of South Tyrolean artistic craftsmanship, in their little house in Piazza Walther every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, in the square, from the 14:00 to the 18:00, there will be the Alpine Advent concerts. On Sunday mornings, however, the costume bands will be on stage.
The Bolzano Christmas Market is open every day, in Piazza Walther, from the 24/11/2023 to the 06/01/2024, from Monday to Thursday from 11:00 to 19:00, and from Friday to Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00. Special times are scheduled on the following days:
24 December: 10-14 hours
31 December: 10-18 hours
1 ° January: 12-19 hours. Closed on Christmas Day.
From end of November to 09 December 2023, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the VIII edition of “A Christmas of Books” will take place. The cultural event will see the participation of numerous Italian and German writers. Location will be the beautiful Halls of the Mercantile Palace.

As usual, this year Bolzano will not remain indifferent to the less fortunate. For this reason, do not miss to visit the Solidarity Market, in the streets of the historic center between Piazza del Grano and Via Argentieri. Here, you will find many items for sale made, for the most part, by volunteers from associations, protected laboratories, cooperatives or from distant countries.
The proceeds will be used to support local initiatives and specific humanitarian projects.
A small Christmas village in the splendid Station Park of Bolzano. The stalls are set up among the large trees of the Park. Craft products are on sale, ideal for your gifts, and gourmet delicacies. In the Park there is also an ice rink.
The flea market is open every day from 25/11/2023 to 06/01/2024, from 10:00 to 19:00.
The skating rink is open on the same days, from Monday to Friday, 10:00 – 19:00; Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 to 20:00. Closed on Christmas day.
There are many initiatives dedicated to children and families.
At Piazza Walther, the hub of Christmas Bolzano, the little ones can have fun on the nostalgic carousel, or on the train between the markets. Between Piazza della Mostra and Piazza Walther, children can get on the back of a pony, or on horse-drawn carriages.
The tourist train is another must-see attraction for the little ones. The electric train starts from Piazza della Parrocchia and goes up to Piazza Gries, crossing some of the main streets of the city before returning to the historic center. The journey takes about half an hour.
The train operates every day from 24-11-2023 to 06-01-2024, from 10:00 to 16:00.
The ticket costs €5 for adults and €3 for children from 3 to 14 years old
From 01 December, the digital Advent Calendar will delight visitors in different parts of the city.
Bolzano has a good accommodation offer, however, the prices for sleeping are quite high, especially in the center, during the Advent period. Availability during this period is drastically reduced.
