You say Christmas and you think of Strasbourg. Like every year, starting from the end of November, the Alsatian city is transformed into a magical and suggestive place. A place where lights, colors, smells and flavors come together, creating a unique alchemy of its kind.
On the other hand, it is no coincidence that the city hosts the oldest Christmas market in all of Europe!

A magical, extraordinary and warm place with a rich program of events. Extraordinary markets between art and regional and traditional craftsmanship; the best food and typical Alsatian Christmas decorations hosted in evocative places. And, again, Advent concerts, events, workshops for children.
Friday 25 November, appointment on 17:00 a Place Kléber for the Soirée de Lancement. In the central square, the heart of the city, Christmas is officially inaugurated with the lighting of the Christmas lights.
It is a truly exciting and evocative moment. For adults and children. To share with everyone.
The event is broadcast live on television on the issuer France3.
Many original, beautiful and evocative decorations characterize the streets, squares, houses and facades of the churches.
Porte de Lumiéres is the gateway to… magic. The luminous writing Strasbourg Capital de Nöel invites you to enter and experience this magic. The door is a splendid shining archway decorated in gold and white, between lights and stars and adorned with two Giant Bears.
The Grand Sapin, that is, the Great Fir, represents the true symbol of Christmas Strasbourg. Always in the central Place Kléber, is located this majestic tree, originally from a state forest in Moselle. About 30 meters tall, sparkling and magically decorated. One of the most photographed protagonists. You can admire it until the 02 January 2023.
And, always the trees, they are protagonists in the squares of Strasbourg. The Arbre Bleu, soul Place Gutenberg. Tall 10 meters, it is decorated all in blue, with a big illuminated Bear beside it: it is the children’s favorite attraction.
At the corner of the Grand Rue e Rue de Fossé des Tanneurs, you can admire the Luster Géant; a splendid sparkling light filled with shapes and details.

Over 300 exhibitors, distributed throughout the city center. The Christmas markets will certainly delight you with unique proposals for all tastes. You can range from regional crafts, Alsatian gastronomic specialties, wine, beer and much more. The Christmas Markets are open every day from November 24th to December 26th 2021, from 11:00 am to 20:00. On the day of the inauguration, the closing is at 21:00. Open December 24th until 18:00. Closed on Christmas day.
The guide to the Christmas in Strasbourg can not but start from Christkindelsmarik. Located at Place Broglie, it is the oldest flea market in Europe, founded in the distant 1570. You can unravel the various stands in search of unique and handmade products. The Union des Corporation artisanales du Bas-Rhin will guide you in discovering the Alsatian tradition and Strasbourg.

The splendid complex of the Palais Rohan, is the setting for a truly unmissable market. The marché des délices de Noël, is located in Place du Marché-aux-poissons and at the Palais Rohan terrace. Gastronomy and culinary art are the protagonists of this market that hosts boulangers and great Vignerons of the Couronne d’Or. Alsatian and regional specialties and delicacies.
You can enjoy foie gras, and Choucroute (pork and sauerkraut dish), accompanied by excellent Alsatian white wine. Or, maybe, warm up with spicy hot wine. And, not to be missed, the legendary Bredle, an Alsatian Christmas biscuit. You will be spoiled for choice. We recommend reaching it for lunch or dinner.
Christmas is the right occasion to celebrate together; it is also a moment of solidarity towards the less fortunate. With these premises the Village du Partage, whose term means sharing, sharing. This market of Place Kléber, keeps alive the ancient tradition of the inhabitants of Strasbourg to leave gifts under the Christmas tree for the poor. About 100 non-profit associations, non-profit organizations and charitable organizations organize the big market whose proceeds are intended for charitable works. The flea market takes place around the Grand Sapin in Place Kléber.
Market located in the beautiful Place de la Cathédrale, very popular for the beautiful and evocative location. The marvelous Notre-Dame Cathedral dominates with its imposing silhouette. From 2016, a new and incredible lighting system creates truly unique and harmonious light effects.

Place Grimessein is home to one of Strasbourg’s most atypical and, at the same time, beloved Christmas markets: Marché Off.
Born in 2015, this market is the place par excellence in which to exchange, recycle, hunt and invent what Christmas offers different, supportive and authentic. Here, a varied program awaits you with concerts, shows, conferences, workshops, workshops and events related to ecology, solidarity and do-it-yourself.
The market is open Sunday to Thursday, from 11:00 to 20:00. Friday, from 11:00 to 21:00. Saturday, from 11:00 to 22:00.

A Christmas market, organized by small Alsatian producers, dedicated to typical Alsace products. It is found at Place des Meuniers.
Christmas is above all the party of the little ones. Christmas is seeing your children’s eyes light up at the sight of a majestic tree; play and have fun together; skate on beautiful ice rinks, all lit up. Christmas in Strasbourg offers a rich program of events, workshops for children.
The ATELIÉR DES LUTINS at the Place du Marché Gayot, is an appointment for the whole family. It welcomes younger children, in playful and fun activities to create their own Christmas masterpieces. At Place Kléber, as usual, the ADVENT CALENDAR awaits you.
Guided tours, walks, nativity scenes, boat trips, concerts, and much more, characterize Christmas in Strasbourg.
Place Kleber hosts a fascinating ice rink for the whole family. Ideal for skating for the first time, or to spend a few hours with friends, boyfriends and children. Every day from November 22, from 2pm to 8pm from Monday to Thursday; from 2pm to 9pm on Fridays; from 11h to 22h on Saturdays; from 11h to 20h on Sundays. The entrance ticket costs €5.00 per person, and includes rental skates.
Finding a structure in the center, during this period, is really difficult. Especially in case you want to spend a little. The city, however, is served by an excellent and efficient transport network. For this reason, you can find excellent quality / price opportunities not very far from the center.
We recommend booking a hotel in the Orangerie area and the business district. The best occasiomes mainly concern Studios and apartments. You can search for accommodation through this link.
