To travel on most of New York’s transportation, you will need to purchase a special rechargeable card called MetroCard.
You can buy it on the underground, at the special machines, and at the exhibitors displaying the official Metrocard logo. The amount varies from a minimum of $5.50 to a maximum of $80. The card costs $1.
Up to 4 people can use the same MetroCard to travel by public transport.
Each time you travel, you must validate your card, from which the amount will be deducted automatically.

Pay per ride is the right solution for those who think of using transport vehicles sporadically. As can be seen from the name, this is a ticket valid for a single journey by metro, and local buses. It costs $2.75 per adult and $1.35 reduced.
If you plan to use public transport regularly for more than 3 days, it may be convenient to purchase Metrocard passes.
7 Day Unlimited Ride allows you to make unlimited runs on the underground and local buses for 7 days; it is valid for 7 days starting from the first validation. It costs $33.00 per adult and $16.50 reduced.
30 Day Unlimited Pass differs from the previous one for duration: 30 days from the first validation. It costs $127.00 per adult and a reduced $63.50.
RATES FOR NEW YORK TRANSPORT TICKETS FOR AIRTRAIN AND BUS EXPRESS
With a single ticket in Airtrain, you can reach the stations of Jamaica and Howard Beach (Red and Green line).
The ticket costs $8.
If you are traveling as a group, it may be rather convenient to buy the 10-trip booklet for $25. It can be used, even simultaneously, up to a maximum of 4 people. After the first validation, you will have 6 months to make all the remaining trips. There is no reduced version.
On the Express buses you need to buy the appropriate ticket at the cost of $6.75 in the standard version, and $3.35 reduced. It is only valid on Express lines.
With the 7 Day Express Bus Plus, you can work on all express bus lines for 7 days in a row, starting from the validation. It costs $62.00 per person and exists only in the standard version.
