The territory of New York stands on an area of 1214 km² at the mouth of the Hudson River, extending partly on land and partly on islands (Manhattan, Staten Island and Long Island), in the so-called New York Bay.

NEW YORK BOROUGHS

New York City

The City is divided into five large Boroughs: Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island.

MANHATTAN

Manhattan is undoubtedly the most famous district with the highest concentration of tourist attractions; to visit this district, divided into Uptown, Midrown and Downtown, a week may not be enough!
Right here, most of the “American icons” are concentrated: Times Square, Wall Street, Rockefeller Center, the shopping street par excellence 5th Avenue, Central Park, Ellis Island (statue of liberty); these are just some of New York’s iconic attractions or places.

BROOKLYN

With over 2.6 million inhabitants, it is the most populous district. Its name derives from the city Breukelen, in the Netherlands, from which it was influenced. Not just Holland; from the Russian, Ukrainian, Italian, Puerto Rican, Jewish, Jamaican, and other culture and traditions, Brooklyn has drawn, and still draws inspiration.
Thanks to a redevelopment started a few years ago, celebrities, artists and musicians live in Brooklyn today, giving prestige to the district and, consequently, contributing in the last few years to revive the whole area; here, you can visit numerous museums, exhibitions and art galleries. In addition, you will find many artisan workshops, clubs, pubs, restaurants and shops.

QUEENS

Queens is located east of Manhattan, and above Brooklyn; is the second most populous district in New York City, as well as the largest, with its 283 square kilometers, It is particularly known for its sporting events; above all, the New York Marathon, which also crosses this area.

BRONX

The Bronx has been part of New York since 1874; compared to nearby Manhattan, from which it is separated by the Harlem River, it is less populous, but larger, with its 109km square. The name comes from the Dutch, born in Switzerland, Jonas Bronck who bought the whole area in 1639 from the Indians. In the 1970s the Bronx was an uninhabitable place, where high unemployment and extreme poverty led to crime and drug use. Over the years, this label has featured a large number of films, of which the district has been a true protagonist. A movie about everyone? Well, Bronx Tale, by De Niro, undoubtedly!
Not to be missed: Little Italy (the real one), Yankee Stadium, New York Botanical Garden, Bay Plaza Shopping Center.

STATEN ISLAND

It is probably the most livable district of the five, thanks to the many green spaces; most tourists take the free boat from South Manhattan to Staten Island to see the skyline of Manhattan on the horizon.
