Public transport is the best solution for getting around Zagreb. The transport is managed by the Croatian Zagrebački električni tramvaj (ZET) through buses, trams and a funicular.
The car is not recommended. Especially if the city should be your only holiday destination.
The new Sljeme cable car connects Gračansko dolje with the top of Sljeme, passing through Brestovac where the intermediate station is located.
Along the way, which rises up to 754 meters high, you will have a truly wonderful view over the whole city.
It is open every day, from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 18:30, Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 to 18:30. The one -way ticket costs 9.95€ for adults, 6.64€ children aged 15 to 24 and 2.65€ for minors of 15 years. Round trip costly cost 16.59€, 9.95€ and 3.98€.
With over 100 years of life, the tram is one of the most beloved means, and used, to move to Zagreb.
In the city, 15 daytime running lines are operating, with frequencies between the 5 and the 10 minutes. The tram connects, in a capillary way, downtown and suburban neighborhoods. Moreover, most of the stops are served by two lines, allowing easy interchanges.
After the 23:00, night service is active. During the night, the 31, 32, 33 and 34 lines circulate, with frequencies from 30 to 40 minutes.
Buses are in service from early morning to late evening. There are over 110 urban and interurban lines that allow you to move to Zagreb in the center, suburbs and neighboring areas.
By bus you can get anywhere, including the Central Railway Station and the international airport. The latter is served by the 290 line.
Buses operate every day, including Sundays and holidays.
As for the trams, after midnight the night service is guaranteed by 5 lines:
The ticket price valid for a single bus race varies according to time and is available in 3 different versions. The 30 minute ticket costs 0.53€, from 60 minutes 0.99€ and 90′ 1.33€. Prices are valid only for daytime sections while the unique rate of 1.99€ is applied on night buses. Prices are valid only if purchased in advance; Otherwise, by purchasing the travel qualifications on board the vehicle, a surcharge up to a maximum of 0.60 € applies!
The validity starts from the time of validation on board the vehicle and ends the 30, 60 or 90 minutes depending on the type purchased.
The ticket for the funicular costs, however, 0.66€. It is valid exclusively on this vehicle, and is purchased at the entrance entrance.
Those who intend getting around Zagreb with public transport, with a certain frequency, will find subscriptions convenient.
The daily ticket costs 3.98€ and offers unlimited access to all Zet vehicles throughout the day (it is valid until midnight on the day of validation, no 24h!). It can also be purchased on board, without surcharge.
Then there are pass of 3, 7 and 15 days. They cost, respectively, 9.29€, 19.91€ and 26.54€ and can be purchased in operators and newsagents.
Remember to always validate your tickets before using the vehicle.
