HOW TO GET TO CROATIA

To cover great distances, the aircraft is the ideal solution. In particular, coming from the countries of Western Europe and from non-European destinations. Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik they are served by important international airports, particularly active in high season. There are also secondary airports, mostly served by national connections.
The train is not an optimal solution, except for Zagreb, connected with some important cities of Eastern Europe. Of course, you can arrive by sea. The connections with Italy are quite frequent, especially in high season.

GETTING AROUND

The car, and the bike, are the best ways to move around the country. You will not be at times, and you can start to discover this wonderful land. Buses are an excellent alternative. In all the main tourist locations, you can use convenient buses. The frequencies, however, is not particularly high. Getting around in Split, Dubrovnik, Zagreb and other important destinations is possible with public transport by road. For info, refer to the individual destinations.
With over 1700km of coastline, and lots of islands, maritime transport is more than just an alternative to getting around the country. Moreover, in the major islands, you can also take a boat with a car.

DOCUMENTS AND CUSTOMS

For all citizens of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, a valid identity card is sufficient. For other countries, it is mandatory
Passport. It is recommended, above all, to bring the CI of their children under age, even if traveling by car or train. See our special section on this subject.
Dogs and cats enter freely, provided they have a health certificate and a recent certificate from the veterinarian of the ASL of residence, attesting to good health. Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies by at least 3 or 4 weeks before the trip.

CURRENCY AND CHANGE

Official currency is the Kuna (HRK). In May, 2018, based on the exchange rate applied, 1 HRK is equivalent to about €0.135; 1€ is equal to about 7.40SEK.
In circulation, you will find coins from 1, 2, and 5 Kune. Lipa is a fraction of Kuna. 100 lipa form 1 Kuna. Banknotes, on the other hand, are found in denominations from 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 HRK.
Almost everywhere, you can pay directly by credit card and withdraw cash at ATMs. A cash reserve is always recommended.
If you need to enter the bank, please note that, generally, the offices are open from Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 19:00; Saturday, from 08:00 to 13:00.

In many cities and tourist locations, they also accept the euro. Generally, the exchange rate is not very advantageous, which is why it is always preferable to pay with the local currency.

HOUR

In Croatia, the clock hands are placed one hour ahead of the Greenwich meridian (UTC/GMT + 1). Daylight saving time starts on the last Sunday in March and ends on the last Sunday in October, with the hands forward an additional hour compared to Greenwich (UTC/GMT + 2).

ELECTRIC CURRENT

Hrvatska pošta is the company that manages Croatian national post. Generally, it is identified on the outside by a black character on a yellow background.
Hrvatska pošta offers all common shipping and telecommunication services.
Typically, post offices open, from Monday to Friday, from 07:30 to 19:00; on Saturdays, from 08:00 to 12:00.

SHOPS

There are no regulated timetables, but much depends on the area and, above all, on the period. Shops are generally open from Monday to Friday, from 08 to 20; on Saturdays, from 08:00 to 13:00. Sundays are often closed. In many coastal locations, in summer, many grocery stores are open even on Sundays.

PHARMACIES

The LJEKARNA sign outside the building indicates the presence of a pharmacy. As a rule, you will find pharmacies open from Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 19:00; Saturday, up to 14:00. On Sundays, it is, everywhere, the closing day. In larger cities, you will always find open, 24 hours on 24, at least one pharmacy.
Hospitals and clinics are present exclusively in the most important Croatian cities. In small towns, you will find small surgeries.

PHONE

In Croatia, the frequencies Gsm 800 / 1800 Mhz and W-CDMA 2100 are used, the same of the main European countries. So you can easily use your Italian, French … smartphone.
To call phones in Croatia, you need to enter the international code 00385, followed by the telephone number.
