Get to Prater, the oldest and largest park in Vienna and Austria

Get to Prater

You say Vienna and… immediately you think of the Prater!
With friends. With your children. In pairs. In family. It is impossible to imagine a holiday in Vienna that does not include a visit to its sumptuous park, one of the most beautiful, ancient and famous in Europe.

It is also one of the ancient piers in Europe, with a history spanning over 250 years. It was, in fact, 1766 when the emperor Joseph II opened his hunting reserve to the Viennese so that it could become a real recreational area.

In the collective imagination, the Prater is above all an amusement park. In reality, calling it a park is rather an understatement.
Located in Leopoldstadt, it covers an area of 6 million square meters!
Here, there is a planetarium, a museum (Pratermuseum), kiosks for the most delicious street food and the famous amusement park (Wurstelprater) with the legendary Ferris wheel.
Then, there is everything else, with the immense green lung and lots of nature.

HOW TO GET TO THE PRATER BY CAR

Viennese public transport is frequent, modern and efficient. Using the car to get to the Prater, as elsewhere, is not exactly the best. In addition to being in many cases a very polluting vehicle.
Those who just can’t help but use the car, keep in mind that there are several car parks in the area. The availability of parking spaces is quite limited, so you may find it difficult to park on weekends and during peak times.
