Midsommar Stockholm is the so-called Midsummer Festival which is celebrated every year in the capital on Saturday between 20 and 25 June. It is a recurrence felt to such an extent that it is equated with Christmas; perhaps even more important!
Man and nature are the two central elements of the party; letting go is the watchword. And in this lies the essence of the whole party. A wonderful party focused on love.
If you were to walk around Stockholm the day before Midsommar, you will most likely notice the small presence of women in the city. The women, in fact, are all intent on preparing traditional dishes to offer to men. From boiled new potatoes, to a whole series of pickled herring accompanied by a myriad of sauces (strictly aphrodisiac!). And, again, hard-boiled eggs, served cold with herbs, fresh beer and bottles of snaps. As a worthy conclusion, ripe strawberries accompanied by whipped cream.
And the men? Well, the boys are busy building Midsommarstång, paying close attention to detail and. above all, avoiding that on the day of tradition, it can break or, even worse, collapse. It would be almost inappropriate for the fertility symbol not to be “erect”. But if such a disaster should happen, it doesn’t matter. To the splendid Swedish maidens, the task of raising the Midsommarstång !!!
A legend tells that, on the day before, before going home, girls and young women collect 7 different kinds of flowers to put under their pillows; at night, their future husbands will appear to them in a dream. Of course, for some, a man in his own bed could be really real!
And it will be, perhaps, because of this enjoyable and festive atmosphere that is breathed in every corner, or, because of the rivers of alcohol, that on this day the greatest number of relationships are consumed. They say that in Sweden, the largest number of unborn babies are concentrated in March. Nine months later! Let yourself go… in fact.
So all that remains is to wish everyone a good Midsommar Stockholm. Who knows, reading this article, someone might not want to visit the splendid Swedish capital.

HOW TO GET
The plane is the best way to reach the Swedish capital. Stockholm Arlanda International Airport is well connected, with direct flights, to the main European and non-European destinations. From the airport, with the comfortable and fast Airport Express train, you can reach the center in about 20 minutes.
Skansen, one of the many locations of the event, can be easily reached by public transport. In this case, avoid the car. More info from here.
WHAT TO DO AND SEE AT MIDSOMMAR STOCKHOLM
There is no specific place in the city where the party takes place; the important thing is that it is an open place, a park or any point in the city. Skansen, a wonderful garden that rises on a hill on the island of Djurgården, is a very popular location.
Everywhere is a party. Everywhere you will find people dancing, dancing, singing their hearts out, gorging themselves and, above all, gulping down Snaps, the typical aromatic Swedish brandy. All around the midsommarstång, one of the main symbols of midsommar; it is a large pole decorated with flowers, a symbol of love and fertility for the summer season.
TIMETABLES AND TICKETS
The event takes place throughout the day, at various strategic points in Stockholm. If you wish to attend the event which takes place from 21 to 23 June 2024 in the Skansen park/museum, you will need to purchase the standard ticket, at a cost of 265kr for adults, and 80kr for children up to 17 years old. Appointment Friday from 11:00 to 23:59, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.
