In 1981, 10 years after the Bosnian war, the Virgin Mary appeared to 6 local children. The event would forever change the fate of Medjugorje, a small village in Herzegovina.

A few decades have passed and, today, this has become one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in the world. Almost on a par with Lourdes and Fatima.

Every year, millions of pilgrims come to this area from all over the world. An intimate, spiritual place. The ideal place to find peace and consolation through prayer.
The Hill of Krizevac, Podbrdo and the Church of St. Jacob are the main places where pilgrims crowd.

This is certainly not a holiday destination, despite the fact that it comes even out of simple curiosity; maybe from neighboring Croatia. But it is also an extraordinary meeting place, especially for young people, great protagonists of an extraordinary festival dedicated to them.

HOW TO GET TO MEDJUGORJE

With the only (limited) exception of Mostar and any organized tours, the best way to get to Medjugorje is by car.

ARRIVING FROM CROATIA

Although more distant, it is probably from Split that it is better to leave to get to Medjugorje.
The international airport is located about 150km away. As soon as you land, you can rent a car, and in less than two hours you will arrive at your destination. Much of the journey is on the A1 motorway (for a fee); follow the signs for Dubrovnik.
