Sinaia, how to get by train, car. Top beautiful destinations Romania

Sinaia

The Pearl of the Carpathians!

In a breathtaking mountain landscape, stands this wonderful village with picturesque architecture. Sinaia is one of the obligatory stops for a tour in Transylvania, south of Brasov, which is just about 50 km away.

The city is located along the spectacular and evocative stretch of the Prahova valley, one of the most beautiful of all the Carpathians, east of the Bucegi Mountains, following the course of the homonymous river between mountains and pine forests. Against the backdrop of Mount Sinai, Charles I of Romania built, in the 19th century, his summer residence, Peles Castelul; the building, with the Sinaia Monastery, from which the city would have taken its name, is one of the most beautiful cultural sites in the area.

HOW TO GET TO SINAIA

PLANE

Get to Sinaia

The best way to reach Sinaia is by plane to Bucharest, and from the capital, by car or, alternatively, by train.

Bucharest is home to two international airports connecting the Romanian capital to major European and international destinations.

BUCHAREST AIRPORT – SINAIA CONNECTIONS

TRAIN

Despite everything, it can be said that Sinaia is well connected by public transport. From Bucharest Henri Coanda Airport, you’ll only need to change trains once to reach your destination. The TFC AEROPORT train will take you to Bucharest North Station in about 10 minutes. Tickets cost 9 lei (€1.77) per person. The service is operated by Transferoviar Calatori, which provides 12 daily connections throughout the day (including overnight).

From Bucharest North, you’ll reach your destination in about 80 minutes. Remember to take the IR train, which takes almost half the time compared to the R train (which makes more stops). Tickets cost 56 lei (€11.03) per adult.

From Bucharest Baneasa Airport, you’ll need to go to Baneasa train station, where trains to Sinaia depart. The train stops in Bucharest North, Ploiesti Vest, and Campina. The journey takes about 2 hours, and tickets cost 56 lei (€11.03).

For all information on Romanian railways regarding timetables, itineraries and updates, please refer to official website of the CFR company.

CAR

Without doubt the most comfortable and… most polluting means.

Inside the terminal there are numerous agencies to book your car. Local agencies have quite advantageous prices but numerous clauses: always pay the utmost attention. Always remember that they will try to offer expensive insurance. Before collecting the car, check that everything matches the bill that is issued to you.

Bucharest airport is located just over 100 kilometers south of Sinaia, from which it is connected by the DN1/E60 which continues to Brașov. It takes about 90′ to get to your destination.
