Le Grand Bleu!

Amorgos is the westernmost island of the Cyclades, seventh by surface of the whole archipelago, with a coastline length of 112 km. The Cycladic island is also the closest to the Dodecanese and is located opposite the cities of ancient Ionia such as Miletus, Halicarnassus and Ephesus.

Charm, suggestion and a timeless atmosphere characterize the island. One of the few, where it is possible to breathe, again, typically Cycladic atmosphere, far from mass tourism. Even in August, you will find a relative tranquility.

Forget the crowds and chaos of Santorini, Mykonos or Rhodes and be amazed by Amorgos, the most Greek of the Cycladic islands. The place that houses the spectacular monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, perched on a sheer cliff: truly spectacular! And then you will find many beaches and an extraordinary blue sea, which is one with the sky. A certain Luc Besson, a French director, knows something about it, choosing it as the absolute protagonist in his famous “Le Grand Bleu”.

GET IN AMORGOS

The only way to get to the greek island is by sea, lacking an airport inside the island. This too, is one of the main reasons why the island has maintained its wild and relatively quiet character.

On the island there are two ports, both located on the northern side: Katapola and Aegiali. You can get from the port of Athens and some of the main islands of the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.

Every day, there are up to 21 crossings a day from Katapola, with runs starting from 25 minutes. Ferries make connections to the port of Piraeus in Athens; Kos, Rhodes and Patmos in the Dodecanese; the islands of the Cyclades archipelago: Koufonissi, Naxos, Paros, Schinoussa, Iraklia, Syra, Santorini, Folegandros, Mykonos and Milos. Blue Star Ferries, Hellenic and SeaJet are the main shipping companies.
