The city of Napoleon.
Capital of Corsica, located in the deepest part of the homonymous gulf to the west of the island, the city is known above all for being the city to have given birth to Napoleon Bonaparte, and, in this sense, there are numerous references to the Emperor in the city: streets, squares, museums and …. the airport.
Ajaccio is also the most French of the Corsican cities, and the most linked to the motherland. But, to strike, it will be above all its splendid gulf with the beautiful beaches and the typical atmosphere of theIle de Beauté.
A trip and a holiday on this island can not disregard the visit of this city and its wonderful surroundings.
Anyone interested in arriving by sea can, first of all, opt to reach Bastia, main port of all Corsica. From Italy, direct connections with Livorno and Savona and, during the summer, with Golfo Aranci in Sardinia, Piombino and Genoa. From France, from Toulon, Marseilles and Nice, ships that dock at the city’s port leave. There are about 25 weekly itineraries connecting the city port with France. It takes just over 6 hours to reach the port of Nice, and over 12 to get to that of Marseille
The port is located on the west coast of Corsica, near the city center. Coming from Bastia or the South of Corsica, you have to turn onto the Route d’Alata and continue up to Piazza Griffi; finally, follow the signs for ‘Gare Maritime’.
The Aeroport Napoleon Bonaparte, also known as Gold Field, is the international airport of the capital, located at 5 kilometers east of the city. Hub of Air Corsica, despite its small size (it is one of the smallest in the entire nation), is the main airport of the island with over one million passengers in transit.
All info and direct connections to / from the Napoleon Bonaparte airport are available to our official page, from this link.
Another solution would be the airport of Bastia Poretta, distant from here around 130 kilometers. From Bastia-Poretta, in about two hours by car you reach the capital.
