Rotterdam Museums. Boijmans Van Beuningen, Casa Sonneveld, Kunsthal

Rotterdam Museums

2001 represented the year of the definitive consecration of the city and of a cultural ferment evident as early as the 1990s.
The election as European Capital of Culture in 2021 marked a great evolution in terms of proposals and number of visitors. In particular in the Museumpark area, the large tree-lined urban park, with sculptures and rose garden, which houses some important Rotterdam Museums.

It is one of the most important Rotterdam museums. It is housed in a building with a unique and quite singular shape.
The Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum offers an incredible wealth and variety of collections from the Middle Ages to today. The exhibition is the result of the contribution of over 1700 private collectors. Especially Frans Boijmans and Daniël George van Beuningen stand out, donating an impressive number of works. Hence, the name of the museum.
Since 2019 it has undergone restructuring. It is currently closed but a short distance away you can visit the homonymous deposit which houses the entire collection. It is a place that goes beyond the very concept of a museum. A space where visitors become protagonists of the museum and can admire the works up close and from different angles.
The Depot is located at number 18 of Museumpark. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11am to 6pm.
The ticket costs €20.00 at standard rate. Free for children under the age of 18.

SONNEVELD HOUSE

Visiting Huis Sonneveld literally means stepping back in time. You will enter an authentic house from 1933, quite famous for its modernist architecture.

Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 17:00. Closed on Mondays.

The visit is combined with the Het Nieuwe Institut, located a short distance away. It is an art institute that offers exhibitions on contemporary design and architecture.
The ticket valid to visit both costs €14.00 for adults. Free for children under the age of 18.
