HOW TO GET TO HEIDELBERG

BY PLANE

The city is located almost halfway between Frankfurt and Stuttgart and two of Germany’s main international airports.
From both airports, once you reach the city center, you can reach Heidelberg by IC train.

From Frankfurt Central Station, you can reach Heidelberg in less than an hour with a direct connection (stops in Darmstadt, Bensheim, and Weinheim). Tickets start at €17.99 per person.
Alternatively, from Stuttgart Airport, you can also take the train to Heidelberg, changing at Mannheim (prices starting at €30.99 per adult).
From Stuttgart Central Station, however, it takes 90 minutes to reach your destination by train.

GETTING TO HEIDELBERG BY CAR

A car is the perfect way to reach the city. It’s perfect for visiting Heidelberg, the surrounding areas with the Castle, and above all, the entire region.
The Black Forest is also just an hour away. Therefore, by car, you can travel independently to visit nearby Karlsruhe (40 minutes), Baden-Baden (80 minutes), or even Freiburg (about two hours by car).
Strasbourg, France, is just over an hour and a half away.

WHEN TO GO

Any time of year is ideal for admiring this beautiful German city. Early autumn and, especially, spring are ideal for pleasant weather and mild temperatures, especially for strolling.
At Christmas, the city offers its most charming and evocative side with its beautiful Christmas markets… this is also a great time for a vacation.
February and March are generally the cheapest months, ideal for a budget-friendly vacation.
