The Greek Mykonos KTEL S.A. manages the road service within the island. Contrary to what one might think, getting around Mykonos by public transport is anything but a utopia. Taxis, and above all rented cars and scooters, represent, in any case, the most popular solution.

Buses connect the most important areas of the island: port, airport, villages and the most famous beaches. The fleet consists of 31 vehicles. The frequencies are generally not exceptional: they range from 30 minutes during peak hours, to about an hour in the late evening and for less frequented destinations. In high season, there is a real risk of not finding space, considering the number of vacationers.
For some nightlife destinations, such as Paradise Beach, there are scheduled runs until late at night. Here are the timetables of the routes (runs and frequencies vary according to the season) of the Mykonos buses:
Travel tickets can be purchased directly on board the vehicle, paying exclusively in cash. The fare varies according to the route and the distance of the journey. Generally, it ranges from a minimum of €1.00 to a maximum of €2.50 per person. There are no reductions for minors. There is no doubt that buses are the cheapest way to get around Mykonos.
Taxis are quite in demand on the island, especially late at night, upon returning from discos; the parking is at the port of Chora. Please note that taxis do not have a meter: depending on your destination, there are fixed rates. Taxis are generally not expensive. For short trips, if you are in a group, you could even pay a couple of euros per person. Our advice is to try to bargain on the price. In this way, you may have a valid alternative with which to move around Mykonos.

The fact that the island is not particularly large makes it absolutely feasible to rent a scooter. The car, on the other hand, is the ideal solution for families. Should you opt for a car, we recommend renting a small car, because it is more convenient to park. In the evening, or during the day, especially in high season, finding a parking space can become a real challenge.
For the scooter, as for the car, we recommend to contact the local agencies. Mykonos, is full of offices and the prices are differentiated according to the season.
June-September low season: from 10 to 14 euros per day;
July mid season: from 12 to 17 euros per day;
August high season: from 15 to 25 euros per day
Keep in mind that in the case of weekly rental, flat-rate discounts will be applied to be decided together with the rental office. Better to opt for a displacement of at least 125cc: the slopes of the island could be prohibitive for a 50cc.
Cars or scooters are the best solution for those wishing to move around Mykonos in comfort without being subject to public transport.
Another means of transport is the Gulet which allows you to move from one part of the island to the other: it is a taxi boat that takes you to the beaches in the South-West. For info on timetables and tickets, you can go to the port of Mykonos town; the frequency varies according to the season and weather conditions.
