Menorca. How to reach the island by plane and ship. Info and links

Menorca

Wonderful beaches, crystal clear waters and magnificent coastlines. Secluded, charming and suggestive coves, perfect for diving enthusiasts. Landscapes and views not to be missed. Welcome to the island of Menorca, an authentic jewel set in the Mediterranean Sea!

A true natural paradise, declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. Less party-like and artificial than Ibiza and Palma, but certainly not less lively. The island is of indescribable beauty, where you go from long white beaches, to pine forests, to marine nature reserves, to terrestrial caves; all embellished by an incredible green-blue sea.

Fantastic landscapes await you in Menorca. An island where you can breathe the influence of the peoples settled over the years: Romans, Muslims, and English. From this point of view, Ciutadella represents one of the maximum expressions. You can walk through the cobbled streets, and admire its extraordinary colonial architecture. Don’t miss the delicious market selling fresh local fish.

The island is the right mix of relaxation and fun. The ideal place to spend the evenings among its lively bars and restaurants. Maybe, sipping a glass of Pomada, in front of a wonderful sunset.

HOW TO GET TO MINORCA

AIRPORT

The plane is the quickest, most comfortable and, probably, cheapest solution to reach the splendid Balearic island. Mahon airport, not far from the capital, is connected with direct flights to the main European destinations. Air traffic is limited, almost exclusively, to the seasonal period, coinciding with the summer holidays.

Once you reach the airport, outside the Terminal, bus 10 allows you to get to the center of the capital. The buses leave every half hour. The ticket costs €2.80 per person, and can be purchased directly on board the vehicle. Taxis and car rentals are excellent alternatives. All the information from this link.

SHIP

The ship is the best solution for those who prefer to bring their car. In addition, arriving by sea offers the opportunity to admire one of the most beautiful and largest natural ports in the Mediterranean: Mahon. Numerous cruise ships also dock here.

Mahon is the main tourist port on the island, located in a beautiful natural fjord in the city of the same name. Much of the island’s maritime traffic is concentrated here. Ciutadella, located to the northwest, in the opposite direction, is the second tourist port on the Balearic island.

Trasmed GLE, Menorca Lines, Balearia, Corsica Ferries and GNV guarantee numerous daily connections, with crossing times starting from 90′. Here are the connections guaranteed by the individual companies all year round:

  • BALEARIA: Ciutadella – Mallorca/Alcúdia. Ciutadella – Barcelona.
CORSICA FERRIERS: Tolón (France) – Mallorca/Alcúdia – Ciutadella.
    GNV: Mahon – Barcelona.
    MENORCA LINES: Ciutadella – Alcudía.
TRASMED: Mahon – Palma de Mallorca – Valencia. Mahon – Palma de Mallorca – Eivissa. Mahon – Alcúdia. Mahon – Barcelona.

Obviously, in July and August, in general, it is very difficult to find available tickets. Especially for those who want to embark their car. The advice is always to move well in advance, in order to also take advantage of more advantageous rates.
