Every day, the lively University Square of Salzburg hosts one of the most popular and appreciated markets in Salzburg.
The Grünmarkt, literally “Green Market”, is a welcoming Farmers’ Market, much appreciated by locals and tourists for the quality of the products and the rather competitive prices.
The offer includes many products, many of which come from the region, and therefore zero km.
It is especially on Saturdays that the Salzburg farmers market becomes a real meeting place for young and old. On this particular day, the stalls double in number, eventually invading the Wiener-Philharmoniker-Gasse.
Be sure to visit it during the Advent period, when the scents of biscuits, cinnamon and mulled wine invade every corner of the square. A show of lights, scents and colors.

The Salzburg Farmers Market is located at Universitätsplatz in the heart of the city center, close to the Mozart House Museum and the famous Alter Markt.
It can be reached easily on foot from the center of Salzburg. Those wishing to opt for public transport can use buses 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, or O-Bus lines 1, 4 and 7.
Get off at the Salzburg Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz stop on Griergrasse.
Alternatively, you can get off at the Salzburg Herbert-von-Karajan-Pl. near the Museum, and continue towards Universitätspl.
There is a wide selection of vegetables, fruit, cheeses, mushrooms and meat. Excellent jams and fruit juices, and homemade desserts.
There is, of course, a wide choice of local products.
Most of the products on display are regulated by a special Consortium which guarantees their quality.
Stop at lunchtime: among the various street food kiosks, you can taste excellent würstelstands: really delicious.
It must be said, however, that over the years, the soul and that authentic and genuine aspect of the Grümarkt has been lost a little (not too much!). Today it has certainly become more touristic and commercial and, inevitably, it has seen prices rise a little and the goods offered to change, with a clear rise in the display of souvenirs.
The Grünmarkt is open from Monday to Saturday at the following times:
On Saturday, it goes from 40 to 80 stands. The area extends from Universitätsplatz to Wiener-Philharmoniker-Gasse.
