Funicular of Fortress in Salzburg, Festungsbahn. Timetable, ticket

Funicular of Fortress

Festungsbahn is the oldest funicular in Austria, inaugurated in 1982, and currently active.
It connects the heart of the historic center of Salzburg with the Hohensalzburg Fortress, one of the most touristic and admired places in the city. Hence, the reason for the name of “Funicular of Fortress“.

A journey of just 200 meters that leads up to the top, towards one of the symbols of the city, as well as one of the most romantic and evocative points of Salzburg. From here, you can enjoy wonderful views of the entire surrounding area.

In addition to the splendid view, you can admire the splendid fortress dating back to the 11th century, one of the best preserved in all of Europe.
In summer, however, grandiose and evocative concerts are hosted.

Over the course of its history, the funicular has undergone numerous interventions, the last of which in 2011. The new cars have been equipped with more modern systems, new electrical equipment and, above all, panoramic windows for a better view of the outside.
