A 111 kilometer long route that goes from the center of Catania to Riposto, surrounding the entire territory around Etna. Hence, the name Circumetnea.
The line initially appeared as a metropolitan section and subsequently developed as a surface railway.
The urban stretch starts from the Port of Catania area and the centre, and ends in Nesima, an interchange with the railway.
The railway line runs from Catania Borgo to Riposto, through 3 distinct routes to Paternò FCE and Randazzo. Please note that there is no direct connection from Catania Borgo to Randazzo (and vice versa).
The Circumetnea railway service is then integrated by a road transport service, for a total of 9 connections.
CIRCUMETNEA LINES AND TIMETABLES
METRO
The underground line connects the two terminus of Stesicoro and Nesima, for a total of 10 stations. Stops at Piazza Giovanni XXIII, Galatea, Italy, Giuffrida, Borgo, Milo, Cibali, San Nullo. The complete journey takes approximately 15′.
From Borgo station it shares the same route as the railway.
It operates from Monday to Saturday, from Nesima, from 6.40am to 8.30pm. Sunday from 08.30 to 20.30.
At Stesicoro, from Monday to Saturday, from 07:00 to 21:00. Sunday, from 08.55 to 21.00.
RAILROAD

The railway line operates from Monday to Saturday, with the following times:
Catania Borgo – Paternò FCE. From 06:07 (first run) to 16:23 (last run). In the opposite direction, from 06.50 to 17.13. There are 14 daily connections.
Catania Borgo – Paternò FCE – Randazzo FCE. Five connections per day at 06:46, 08:05, 12:20, 13:50 (limits to Adrano Nord) and 15:30. In the opposite direction, at 05:57, 07:15, 10:58, 12:30, 15:01.
Randazzo FCE – Riposto. Three trips daily at 06.32, 12.10 and 15.06. From Riposto, at 08:55, 13:50 and 16:26.
The service is suspended on Sundays and public holidays.
TICKETS
The ticket to travel on the subway costs €1. Valid for 90 minutes from validation.
With the daily ticket, at the cost of €2 you travel all day on the metro network.
The BIT integrated ticket is also available, which can be used within 2 hours of validation on the Catania metro and AMT buses.
To travel on the railway in extra-urban areas, you must purchase a ticket for the tariff zone concerned. In total there are 8 extra-urban tariff zones.
