Getting around Salzburg is quite simple, thanks to a well organized transport network; thanks to it, you will have the possibility to choose between different modes.

The traffic and directions, often unclear, are the main reasons why it would be better to avoid the car to get around the city. Not to mention, then, the difficulty of finding parking available! In any case, you can easily walk around the center; There is nothing better than a relaxing and rejuvenating walk!

The transport system includes the Obus trolley buses, buses and Albus trains: all efficient and comfortable.

GETTING AROUND SALZBURG BY BUS

Twelve ultramodern trolleybuses, as well as buses, allow you to move around Salzburg easily. The Obus, are modern and efficient trolley buses that offer air conditioning, comfortable seats and USB ports to charge mobile phones and tablets. Thanks to the low floor of all the 102 vehicles, all people with reduced mobility and on a small boat will be able to use this method of transport.

Next to the trolley buses, a modern bus network, called Albus, connects in a capillary way the center and the suburbs. In service, there are 12 lines that circulate from morning until late at night, with frequencies between 10 and 15 minutes. Even at night you can move around Salzburg, on board the convenient road vehicles. The 912, 913, 914, 915, and 918 lines, said Nachtbus, they run after midnight, between Friday and Saturday, and between Saturday and Sunday. There are, generally, a couple of night rides. The 5 lines all pass from Salzburg HBF, the central railway station. To use the night lines, you need to purchase a special ticket on board the vehicle; it is valid on all night lines, for a trip without interruptions, and costs 4.50€.

TRAINS

The central station of Salzburg (Hauptbahnhof) was inaugurated in the 1860; today it is one of the most important junctions between Central and Eastern countries; as well as a hub for Germany, with Eurocity and Intercity trains.

The central station also offers one of the most used connections by the population; this is the local line for the northern region of Flachgau, which carries almost 15.000 commuters every day.

The outer square of the station has recently been redone; moreover, this station is just a few minutes from the city center and from the major sites of interest. A stone’s throw away is the large 1 Forum shopping center with restaurants, shops and supermarkets.

The central station also offers fast connections to Austrian and German locations, and in particular to Lower Bavaria, Germany.

The S-Bahn is a train service that connects Salzburg Central Station to the rest of the region.

The lines are:

• S1 Line Lamprechtshausen – Salzburg main station, with a frequency between 15 and 30 daily minutes.
• Line S2 Strasswalchen – Salzburg Central Station, every hour every hour.
• S3 Line Bad Reichenhall – Freilassing – Schwarzach St. Veit, every hour every hour; while between Freilassing and Golling-Abtenau every 30 minutes on weekdays.
• Line S4 Berchtesgaden – Freilassing, every day, with frequency every hour.
• S11 Line Ostermiething – Burmoos, daily frequency, every hour.
