WHAT TO SEE IN NIJMEGEN
GROTE MARKT

Grote Markt is the starting point for visiting the beautiful city.
The beating heart of Nijmegen, it is surrounded by splendid palaces, historic buildings, clubs and bars.
Perfectly located for a relaxing stroll along the riverside.
The beautiful Waagh, a 17th century Renaissance style building, overlooks the square. Today it houses a charming and refined restaurant.
Grote Markt is located in the center of an area that hosts all the main places of interest in Nijmegen: Steveskerk and the subsequent Lange Hazelstraat. The two main city parks. The MuZIeum. And finally, some casinos. Not far away, moreover, is the most famous bridge in the city.
STEVENSKERK
The oldest church in Nijmegen dominates the Grote Markt with its silhouette.
It is a religious building dedicated to the cult of Saint Stephen, which dates back to the 13th century. It holds over 750 years of history and is considered by the inhabitants to be the real symbol of the city.
It was restored following the bombings of the World War.
You can admire its elegant domes, the monumental Köniorgan, the spectacular chandeliers and the play of lights on the windows: you simply don’t know where to look. There is no doubt that you will be impressed by this impressive monument. Don’t miss the ascent to the Stevenstoren Tower for spectacular views across the city.
The Church is open every day, from Monday to Sunday, from 11:00 to 17:00.
LANGE HAZELSTRAAT
It is considered to all intents and purposes the shopping street, with shops, bars and cafes.
You can enjoy a leisurely stroll before or after visiting the nearby Kronenburgerpark.
The street is home to several historic buildings that contribute to giving charm to the whole area.
KRONENBURGERPARK
A place not to be missed if you are on holiday with your children. Also ideal for spending a few hours in complete relaxation.
A wonderful public garden with lots of greenery, built in the 19th century around a medieval structure.
You can still admire some ruins and the splendid medieval Kruittoren tower.
There are also two beautiful lakes, and several animal species to admire.
For the little ones, there is a play area with slides and paths.
A truly wonderful place, right in the center, open 24/7.
VALKHOF PARK
This is another large public garden in the center. In addition to the beauty of the place, the park preserves interesting historical testimonies, starting with the ancient Roman ruins of the 12th century (Barbarossa Ruïne), passing through more recent history. In the park, in fact, there are 3 bunkers built by the Germans during the Second World War. The Valkhofbunker was rebuilt on the original and can still be visited for free (times to be verified).

Also in the park there is a suggestive chapel with ancient origins.
In the background you can admire the famous bridge that crosses the Waal.
Every year, in June, the Valkhof Festival is a popular musical event for the whole city and the adjacent municipalities
The park also houses a museum (Het Valkhof) with a collection of archaeological finds and modern art.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Closed on Mondays.
WAALBRUG
In the list of what to see in Nijmegen, the Waalbrug, the monumental arch bridge that crosses the Waal, certainly cannot be missing. Built in 1936, it is over 600 meters long, reaching the highest point of almost 65 meters.
MUZIEUM
Not far from the Grote Markt, to the south, the MuZIeum is a museum that goes beyond the usual schemes. It is a real sensory experience in which visitors will be literally blindfolded. You can live a unique experience, testing all your senses except for the sight.
A truly one-of-a-kind museum. The tour lasts one hour.
Open on Mondays from 12:00 to 17:00, and from Tuesday to Sunday from 09:30 to 17:00.
The ticket for adults costs € 17.50, for children from 8 to 12 € 12.
Access to children under the age of 8 is not permitted.
