Not far from the beautiful Sighisoara, Targu Mures is, often, just a stopover on a trip on the road in Transylvania.
The city, however, deserves more than just a fleeting glimpse. In one day in Targu Mures, you will discover a beautiful town in the heart of the region.

Far from the great Transylvanian tourist destinations, Targu Mures offers interesting insights. Starting from the Zoo, absolutely unmissable place in case you had to travel with your children.
Opened in the 60 years, the zoo is located in the eastern part of the city, on the Corneşti plateau, just under 500 meters above the Black Sea level. Here, in a splendid forest of oaks and evergreens, the ideal habitat for animals has been created.
Guests of the zoo are about 500, for a total of 80 species.
Inside there are plenty of equipped areas and lots of games for your children.

The zoo is open from Monday to Sunday, in winter from 09:00 to 16:00; in the summer, from 09:00 to 17:00.
The adult ticket (from 12 years wine to 64) costs 20LEI. Children from 2 to 12 years old and retired, pay the reduced rate equivalent to 5LEI.
With the convenient FAMILIAL BILETTE, two adults and two children enter the cost of 45LEI.
Among the places of greatest interest, during the one-day visit to Targu Mures, there is the Palatul Culturii. It is located just over 1 km from the city train station, past the Town Hall is the Turnul Prefecturii. The Palatul Culturii is a beautiful, majestic, early 900 building, with truly sumptuous windows and interiors. It hosts the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Municipal Library and art museums with interesting temporary exhibitions inside. Do not miss the beautiful Sala degli Specchi (Sala de Oglinzi) on the First Floor, with twelve extraordinary windows that reflect the history and folklore of the Transylvania.
Open from Tuesday to Friday, from September to April, from 09:00 to 16:00. Saturday and Sunday, from 09:00 to 14:30. Closed on Monday.
In summer, from Tuesday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:30, and Saturday and Sunday, from 09:00 to 15:30.
The full-fare ticket for visiting exhibitions and galleries costs 12LEI.
To take photos and movies, you need to pay a supplement from a minimum of 10LEI to a maximum of 50LEI.

The area where the Palace of Culture is located, is the most vibrant in the city, with shops, cafes, restaurants and the ever-present McDonald’s nearby. Piaţa Trandafirilor, or the Rose Square, is the nerve center of the city. Here are concentrated shops, restaurants, clubs and many buildings and beautiful buildings. More than a square, it is a great avenue.

In Piaţa Trandafirilor 11, the beautiful building Toldalagi, in Baroque style, houses an interesting one Ethnographic and Folklore Museum. Ideal if you have more time to visit the city.
Rather pleasant, it shows the ancient interiors of the houses, and some interesting objects of everyday life. Typically, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 09:00 to 16:00. The ticket to enter costs 8LEI.

Beyond the statue dedicated to the Romanian national hero Avram Iancu, we reach the Cathedral of the Ascension, another top place not to be missed in one day in Targu Mures.
It is the most important religious building in the city, and among the most representative of the Orthodox cult of the entire nation.

Last but not least, Cetatea and, above all, the Thelekiana Library, represent 2 unmissable destinations in one day in Targu Mures.

The beautiful Theleki palace, in Baroque style, located at the end of Strada Bolyai, east of Piazza delle Rose, hosts the Thelekiana Library. It was set up by the will of Chancellor Theleki who, after traveling in Europe, wanted to set up a library able to compete with those seen during his travels. Today, the site holds about 200000 manuscripts, some of which are rather rare.

The Medieval Fortress it is the visited place of the city. Star-shaped, it was built in the fifteenth century and, today, it is still well preserved. You can admire the ramparts going around the walls. Inside, you can admire the Calvinist church, in Gothic style, restored in the eighteenth century.
