Henri Coanda, also known as Otopeni, is the international airport serving Bucharest. It is the most important and busiest airport in all of Romania, well connected with the main European destinations. Numerous companies connect the city with the major capitals, including Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Madrid, Rome and Paris.
Inside its one terminal you will find all essential services such as bars, restaurants, duty-free and ATMs for withdrawing cash. There is also a post office, a chapel to pray and … a barber!
The wifi line is available free of charge for all travelers. For the little ones, special changing areas are available, perfectly indicated within Bucharest Airport.
From 2023, the expansion works of the airport will begin, with the creation of a new large terminal on the eastern side. The works are expected to be completed between 2025 and 2030. According to estimates, the new Bucharest Airport could accommodate up to 20 million passengers a year!

BUS
The express bus 783, recommended, connects Bucharest Airport with the city center, and vice versa. Buses run day and night, and the stop is located outside the Arrivals and Departures Terminals. They leave about every 20 minutes (40 ‘in the evening) and take a little more than 40 minutes to get to the center. The ticket for a single journey costs 3 RON (just 0.6€)
Alternatively, there is the Express 780 bus connecting the airport with the Gara de Nord station; from here, it is then possible to take the train to reach the city.
TRAIN
The Henri Coanda Express Train takes you to Balotesti, about 700 meters from the airport. From here, the train leaves for Bucharest’s Gara de Nord station in about 25 minutes. The train runs every day, from Monday to Sunday, 24 hours a day. The ticket (2nd class) costs 4 RON per person.
TAXI
Traveling by taxi to / from the airport is not particularly expensive. Official taxis are stationed outside the Terminal and are easily identifiable by the presence of the license, the logo and the taximeter in plain sight. A rate between 1.90 and 3.85 RON applies, depending on the time and day (at night, and on weekends and holidays you pay more). A surcharge may be applied in the case of the transport of bulky suitcases.
For taxis, you have to get in line politely. Keep in mind that no taxi driver or intermediary will be able to approach you because it is punishable by law.
