Parking in Strasbourg. Prices, red lines, free parking. P+R, car

Parking in Strasbourg

Getting around Strasbourg by car can be quite problematic and, at the same time, impractical. This is especially true if you plan to visit its charming historic center and the most touristy areas. The presence of the Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) in the area of Rue des Juifs, Rue des Frères, and Place Saint-Étienne further discourages car use in the city.

This is why it’s best to leave your car far from the city center and use efficient public transportation.

Smart. Convenient. Affordable. If you’re planning to reach Strasbourg by car, so-called “parking-relais” are a great option for parking in Strasbourg.
Managed by the CTS transport company, the Parkings-Relais (or more commonly P+R) are parking lots perfectly integrated into the urban public transport system. They consist of 11 large parking areas located throughout Strasbourg near the city’s tram and bus stops.
Open 24/7, they offer a total capacity of 4,000 parking spaces. They are located between 5 and 20 minutes from the city center (Place de l’Homme de Fer).
The operation is very simple. At the entrance, press the button on the terminal: the barrier opens, and you receive a special ticket that you must keep. In addition to being your exit ticket, this ticket will allow 7 people to travel on CTS trams and buses at the following rate:

€4.20… from 4:30 AM to 2:30 AM the following day.
€7.20… 24h
€14.40… 48h
€21.60… 72h

The price includes parking and transportation for 7 people. This is undoubtedly an excellent parking solution in Strasbourg. We’ve tested it and recommend it. The closest parking lot to the city center is Rotonde, connected to tram lines A and D. It’s located 5 minutes from Place de l’Homme de Fer.
Parking is available for cars under 1.90 meters tall. Cars taller than 1.90 meters are only available in the Elsau car park.

STREET PARKING IN STRASBOURG: PRICES AND LOCATIONS

This is a less practical and convenient option, as well as more expensive. Street parking is not the best option, especially during peak hours, given the difficulty in finding free parking near the city center.
In Strasbourg, on-street parking is divided into three different zones, each with its own color: red, orange, and green. The red zones, closest to the city center, are obviously the most expensive: €2.10 per hour, with a maximum of three hours of parking. In the orange zone, parking costs €1.70 per hour, with a maximum of four hours. In the green zones, furthest from the city center, you can leave your car for just €0.50 per hour, for a maximum of five hours.

Free parking in Strasbourg is not a pipe dream… quite the opposite. You can leave your car for free on the street in any zone (even in the red zones) on Sundays and public holidays for the whole day.

Furthermore, on weekdays, parking in Strasbourg is free from 7:00 PM until 9:00 AM the following day.

LIMITED TRAFFIC ZONES

To ease traffic congestion in the city center, a restricted traffic zone (ZTL) has been established where private vehicles (except authorized vehicles) are prohibited starting at 11:00 a.m. This zone covers the area of Rue des Juifs, Rue des Frères, and Place Saint-Étienne.
If you are driving your own car, you can access the ZTL and park on the street in Strasbourg until 11:00 a.m. (€2.10 per hour). After this time, it is strictly forbidden to drive or enter this zone. Be very careful, as checks are carried out systematically and the fines are quite hefty.
