WHERE: Basel, Switzerland
WHEN: October 25 to November 9, 2025
Switzerland’s largest and oldest amusement fair, attracting over a million visitors from across Europe each year.
Begun in the 15th century, the Basel Autumn Fair (Herbst Messe) has rightfully become part of the Swiss city’s historical and cultural heritage. An event that has evolved over its 500-year history, while maintaining its original character intact.
The traditional “Hääfelimäärt” (fair) in Bernoullistrasse is still an integral part of the Fair. So is the “Soggeball,” a thanksgiving event featuring the famous and traditional hand-knitted socks and plenty of hot food.
For approximately two weeks between October and November, Basel will host breathtaking rides, traditional stalls, and nostalgic attractions in seven different locations.
A guaranteed spectacle for young and old.

Nostalgic rides, attractions, and stalls are the common denominator of the Fair. Each area, however, has its own unique characteristics.
Messeplatz represents the heart of the fair, with its numerous food stalls and main attractions. Here, as elsewhere, be sure to sample typical products such as Chäsbängel (cheese fondue sandwich) and traditional sweets like Magenbrot or Mässmogge.
Petersplatz, with its stalls, is especially suitable for lovers of local crafts. Münsterplatz, with its Cathedral and beautiful Ferris wheel, is one of the landmarks of the area, much loved by visitors.
The Basel Autumn Fair takes place, as per tradition, in seven different areas of the city:
Rosentalanlage, Messeplatz, Hallenmesse, Münsterplatz, Petersplatz & Hääfelimäärt, Barfüsserplatz, and Kasernenareal.
Each area hosts different rides and attractions, as well as the inevitable stalls selling a wide variety of products.
It is recommended to travel exclusively by the city’s convenient and efficient public transportation. Those arriving by car are advised to park far from the city center and take a bus or tram to reach the various areas of the Fair.
The Basel Autumn Fair takes place on the following days:
The fair is held every day, Sunday through Thursday, from 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, from 12:00 noon to 11:00 p.m.
At Petersplatz with Hääfelimäärt, every day, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
