By bus, taxi or on foot, it is to possibile getting around Rijeka, and reach the main points of interest, and the nearby towns. The car remains an unsuitable medium for getting around Rijeka.
RIDE ON FOOT AND BY BIKE
The old town and Korzo, the real beating heart of Rijeka, are almost completely forbidden to traffic. Better to move on foot, and admire the beauty of the city.
For short-medium range distances, the bike can be a good solution for getting around Rijeka.
In the city there are numerous rental agencies, with excellent value for money. Among the various, we indicate RENT A BIKE BRI, located in Križanićeva ul.2B. Friendliness, new bikes and great prices are among the strengths. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Continental.
TAXI
Taxi prices are generally quite cheap. An average city ride costs around €10. If you travel in a group, it could be a really optimal solution.
In the city, taxis are stationed in the immediate vicinity of the railway, at the main bus stop, and in Matije Gupca.
Always check beforehand the cost of the trip. Taxis are easily identified by the logo, the license number, and the visible meter.
GETTING AROUND RIJEKA BY BUS
Autotrolej is the Croatian company that deals with public transport in Rijeka and 12 neighboring municipalities. The service is guaranteed by a total of 53 lines and 174 buses.
Zabica is one of the main stops in the center of Rijeka, a short distance from the port and the railway. From here, the main urban bus lines pass.
Furthermore, a convenient luggage storage is available at Zabica station. Here, you can leave your bulky suitcases, and wander around town. It works from 06:00 to 22:00, with a cost of 9HRK for each hour of deposit.
The Line 2, Trsat-Srdoči, and line 8 Torpedo-Trsat-Kampus, are among the most tourist.
The main urban lines generally operate every day, including Sunday, from about 05:15 to 23:30. The frequencies vary from 10 ‘on weekdays, to about 15/20 minutes, in the evening and on the weekend.
With suburban lines, you can reach the 12 neighboring municipalities, such as Opatija or Lovran. Journey times vary from 30 to 50 minutes, with departures every hour.
Buses 101, 102 and 103 are night lines, operating only on Saturdays and Sundays, after midnight, until 03:00. There are runs every hour.
BUS TICKETS
For getting around Rijeka by public transport, you can opt for single or daily tickets. The rate varies according to the area. To move around the city, just the ticket for one area; otherwise, there are tickets for up to 4 zones.
If you buy the City Card, you will travel at a discounted price. Probably, normal tickets, purchased from the driver, could be equally advantageous and, above all, more convenient.
Here, below, the price and costs of individual tickets based on the number of zones.
- 1 zone, within 60′- 12.00kn
- 2 zones, 70′ from validation: 16.00kn
- 3 zones, 90′ from validation: 19.50kn
- 4 zones, 130′: 25.50kn.
All tickets are valid for travel from an origin to a destination, regardless of the number of lines used. It is not allowed to go back. The journey must end within the time established by the validation (e.g. 60 minutes in zone 1 from the moment it was validated).
Alternatively, you can save money by purchasing two single tickets at a cost of 19kn (1 zone) up to 36kn (4 zones).
The day ticket allows you to make unlimited transfers for the day it is validated. It is available only for zone 1 at 24.00kn, or all areas at 41.00kn.
The weekly pass, however, costs 96.00kn in the 1-zone version, and 192.00kn for all areas. It is valid for 7 consecutive days starting from the validation day.
