The Monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet is rightly considered the most important monastic complex in Spain. Not surprisingly, in 1991, it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Here you will be able to admire the different architectural styles (from Romanesque to Gothic) which have been well combined from the 12th century onwards.
And if you still have time to spare, in just 15 minutes by car you will arrive at the pretty medieval village of Montblanc.

PRACTICAL INFO
HOW TO GET
The Poblet Monastery is located about 50 km north of Tarragona. You can easily get there by car in about 40 minutes, via the Autovia Tarragona-Lleida / A-27 and N-240, exiting at Espluga de Francolí.
From Barcelona, by car, it takes about 80 minutes on AP-7 and AP2 (exit 9 towards Espluga de Francolí).
Arriving by car, at the foot of the road where the Monastery stands, there is ample free parking.
By train with the Línia de Rodalies de Renfe, from Barcelona, you arrive at the Espluga de Francolí station, the closest to the Monastery, located about 3 kilometers away.
Around 5 trips depart every day, with a travel time of around 2 hours.
VISIT OF THE POBLET MONASTERY
Generally, about half a day is spent visiting the complex, with the necessary breaks. Inside, you will find inns where you can stop and eat.
Overall, you can admire the Royal Church, with the tombs of the 8 kings of the Crown of Aragon and 6 spouses, the Main Cloister, the dormitory, the Library, the Refectory. The Abbot’s Palace (16th century), the Chapel of Santa Caterina and Sant Jordi.
The Royal Gate, the 13 Towers and the over 600 meters perimeter of the Walls, with a height of about 11 meters.

Poblet Monastery is open every day, including holidays, at the following times:
- From 15 September to 14 June, from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 15:00 to 18:00.
- From June 15th to September 14th, from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 15:00 to 18:30.
Sundays and holidays, opening at 10:30.
POBLET MONASTERY TICKETS
The standard rate entrance ticket costs €8.50. The reduced ticket for over 65, children aged 7 to 17, costs €6.50.
Free for under 7s accompanied by a paying adult.
