Dean Village literally means “Deep Valley”.
In this place, centuries ago, among the water mills installed along the Leigh River, there were 11 factories that engaged in important commercial affairs.
Right here, today, you can admire one of the most evocative areas in all of Edinburgh. A small jewel that seems to have come out of a tale of other times.
A wonderful place where time seems to have stopped right at the time of the mills, among the mansions with colored facades of the nineteenth century, the ancient trees, the stones covered with moss.
It seems to be catapulted into a little fairy tale. Or a Harry Potter tale. Still, it is within easy reach of Edinburgh city center.

HOW TO GET TO DEAN VILLAGE
The village, as mentioned, is located not far from the center, perfectly reachable on foot. From the Castle, and from Princess Street, it takes about 20 minutes.
If you want to use public transport, you will find the nearest bus station at Drumsheugh Place (Stop QF). It is just over a 5-minute walk away. Lines 13, 19, 36, 37, 41, 43, 47, 47B pass through here.

Admiring the charming Borgo is just one of the activities to do.
The approximately 15km along the Water of Leight are undoubtedly a must when visiting Edinburgh’s Dean Village. In addition to the beautiful village, this beautiful green area bordering the river leads to beautiful places.
After passing the Cemetery, you can reach, for example, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, and its beautiful and well-kept gardens. Open every day from 10:00 to 17:00. Generally, one wing of the Gallery can be accessed for free
