Getting around Paros by car, scooter and by public transport

Getting around Paros

The island is well served by an efficient public transport service. It is possible getting around Paros by bus, car and scooter. Everything, of course, depends on your needs.

BUS

The road service is managed by the Greek KTEL. It is possible getting around Paros, aboard comfortable and efficient buses operating all day, both in winter and in summer. It is in the high season, of course, with the influx of tourists, that the means are more frequent. Especially in the most important lines.

Parikia, the capital of the island, is the base for reaching the beaches, villages and various points of interest on the island. Parikia – Naoussa is one of the busiest lines. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes. In high season, buses depart with a frequency of about 30′. Another rather busy line is the one that connects the capital to Aliki. Bus connections to/from the airport are also guaranteed.

The Parikia – Marathi- Kostos- Lefkes-Prodromos- Marmara- Marpissa- Piso Livadi- Logaras- Punda Beach- Golden Beach-Drios line connects numerous beaches and points of interest on the island. By bus, you can also reach other destinations such as Voutakos, the airport, and, of course, Punda to board for Antiparos.

On KTEL buses you can transport your 4-legged friends. Animals must weigh no more than 10kg, and have a veterinary certificate printed within the last 12 months. A maximum of two animals per vehicle are allowed, closed in an approved pet carrier.

GETTING AROUND IN A SCOOTER

The island is not particularly small but the scooter represents, however, a valid solution for getting around Paros. It is also ideal for those who have planned a day trip to nearby Antiparos; you will have no difficulty in boarding the vehicle, and you will pay a reduced rate compared to the car.

Furthermore, the scooter is ideal for those staying in the capital. From here, in a short time, you can move to Naoussa and the most famous beaches. Moreover, almost all of them are perfectly accessible.

Rental prices vary depending on the season. In June and July, a 125cc scooter costs, on average, €18 per day. In high season, and especially in August, you could even pay €30, or more, for a scooter, and €40 a day for a quad!

PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS

The price varies according to the distance and the route. For short/medium-haul journeys, the minimum price is €1.80 per person. This is the case, for example, of the ticket from Parikia to Punda, Naoussa, Aliki or the airport.

A day ticket is also available, at a cost, in our opinion excessive, of € 9.00 per person. The ticket allows you to use all buses in Paros over a whole day.

Tickets can be purchased on the buses and at the KTEL main station in Parikia and Naoussa; at numerous merchants, kiosks and mini markets in Parikia, Naoussa, Lefkes, Prodromos, Marmara, Marpisa, Piso Livadi, Drios, Aliki, Punda, Voutakos and Antiparos.

GETTING AROUND PAROS BY CAR

The island is perfect for being discovered by car. The streets of Paros are mostly flat and, above all, asphalted. There are no major slopes and the vast majority of points of interest are easily accessible. Road signs are also pretty good.

At the port, at the airport and in the main centers of Paros, you will find numerous rental agencies. As always, we recommend booking well in advance directly online. From this link, you can easily choose your car at the best price, with the possibility of canceling at no cost.

There is no shortage of petrol stations, especially in the centers. Generally, here, as in the other Greek islands, the cost of fuel is slightly higher than in mainland Greece.
