Craiova is not a tourist city. Despite being on the rise, its numbers are still not comparable to the cities of Transylvania. Or to the capital.
However, the Romanian city is gaining credit thanks, above all, to its fascinating Christmas markets, among the most beautiful in Europe according to Best European Destinations.
If you are looking for what to see in Craiova, you cannot miss visiting the Nicolau Romanescu Park, considered one of the most beautiful in Eastern Europe.
The Romanescu Park is a real natural treasure with lakes, bridges, animal species and beautiful architecture.
You can even admire a suggestive Castle.
A real paradise for adults and children.
Inaugurated in 1903, after just 3 years of planning, it covers about 96 hectares, a short distance south of the historic center.
The park is located about two kilometers south of the historic center. Coming from the latter, the main entrance is located on Bulevardul Nicolae Romanescu 1A. You can get there easily by bus, with lines 1, 4, 24 and 1R. The parking is located a few hundred meters from the entrance.
The Romanescu Park of Craiova is open every day, from Monday to Sunday, including holidays, 24 hours a day.
There is no entrance fee and access to the park, the zoo and the Castle is free.
The park is truly immense. If you are on holiday in Craiova you will have to allow for more than half a day.
In the park you can admire, first of all, the hundreds of species of trees, the numerous bridges and ponds.
The Suspension Bridge is one of the main attractions of the Park. Romantic and suggestive, it connects the two hills, crossing the lake. Here, you can get on one of the boats for a fascinating ride.
A little further on, there is the old Castle, which can be visited and admired. Its presence contributes to giving a romantic image to the Romanescu Park.
The zoo, a little further on, is home to several species of animals. Admission is free.
