Cesky Krumlov Castle

The Baroque Castle dominates the town of Cesky Krumlov. It was elected National Monument of the Czech Republic in 1989, and since 1992 it has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Its construction dates back to the 13th century.

Cesky Krumlov Castle is considered one of the most important architectural monuments in all of Central Europe! Furthermore, it is the second largest historical building in the country, behind only Prague Castle.

The entire complex, in fact, extends over 7 hectares. There are 40 buildings, a large garden and 5 courtyards. In one of these five there is the wonderful Baroque theater, one of the most beautiful in the world.

The beautiful castle features Gothic, Late Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. It is dominated by the Gothic Hrádek with its round tower.
It is undoubtedly the fundamental stage of a visit to Cesky Krumlov.

HOW TO GET

Cesky Krumlov Castle is located on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by the Vltava.
From the center of Cesky, a maze of narrow streets leads up to the Castle.
You can only get there on foot.

WHAT SEE

Inside the complex you can admire beautiful Baroque and Renaissance rooms, and important works of art; among these, the paintings in the “Masquerade” room and the picture gallery stand out.

Plášťový most is an impressive arched bridge, built on 3 levels. The central floor connects the “a masquerade” room with the Baroque Theater. The lower level offers a beautiful view of the entire surrounding area. The top floor, on the other hand, was the one once used by the nobility.
The Baroque Theater, on the other hand, is an authentic jewel, as well as one of the best-preserved theaters of its kind in the world.
Once upon a time, only selected spectators could attend the shows. Today, a couple of times a year, exclusive concerts are held (only for a lucky few).
The theater can only be visited in groups.
The Baroque Stables, built on the ground floor of the Renaissance House, are also truly beautiful.

Among the must-see monuments of Cesky Krumlov Castle there is undoubtedly also the one with its scenic round shape, the external frescoes and the upper loggia. Spectacular view at the top after climbing the stairs.
