Getting around Stonehaven by car bus taxi on foot. Bus timetables

Getting around Stonehaven

Stonehaven is a very small city, so you can get around almost exclusively on foot. The main museums, monuments and places of interest are concentrated in a few hundred meters. By bus you can reach medium/long-haul destinations, including the beautiful Castle.

CAR AND TAXI

Given the size and distances, it is absolutely useless getting around Stonehaven by car and taxi. Regarding the latter, the service is offered by the local private company Dash Cabs. A ride to Aberdeen should cost around £35.

GETTING AROUND STONEHAVEN ON FOOT

With the exception of Dunnottar Castle, all of the town’s main points of interest can be reached on foot, walking for no more than 20 minutes.
From the port to the War Memorial, for example, it takes just under 20 minutes. On the opposite side, the large outdoor swimming pool (one of the most popular places in the summer), is about 15 minutes walk from the Clock Tower.
The train station can also be easily reached on foot, walking for about 20 kilometers.

DUNNOTTAR CLIFF TRAIL

It is, by far, the best and most impressive way to reach Dunnottar Castle from the Port. A spectacular path that crosses truly breathtaking landscapes and views across the coast. All you have to do is walk slowly to admire the places that surround you.
On the way you will pass by the suggestive War Memorial dedicated to the fallen of the Second World War.
At times the path narrows but does not require any particular skills, if not the desire to walk for over 40 minutes. Comfortable shoes and a jacket are recommended because the place is quite windy.

BUS

The public service is managed by the transport company Stagecoach which operates throughout the territory with a modern fleet of buses.
Getting around Stonehaven by bus, you use the few lines in service (8A and 8C) which make circular routes and are active only from Monday to Saturday. There are no buses on Sundays.
They have quite similar routes, always with terminus at Barclay Street, and frequency of one hour.

  • Line 8A operates from Monday to Friday, from 08:45 to 16:55. Saturday, from 10:45 am to 3:45 pm. The bus also stops at the railway station.
  • Line 8C is active from Monday to Friday, from 09:15 to 16:15. Saturday from 11:15 to 16:15.

In addition to lines 8A and 8C, other lines (7, 7A, 7B, 8, X7) continue to Aberdeen and stop in some areas of Stonehaven.

Tickets can be purchased directly on board the bus.
