With a rather small and collected center, Rapperswill is ideal for walking around. Maybe, slowly, through alleys and narrow streets, in search of suggestive shots.
The bike is a rather popular means of transport in these parts, ideal for getting around Rapperswil and throughout the region. Alternatively, for longer distances, you can use the buses
BIKE
Two-wheelers are the preferred means of transport for the Swiss and the many tourists who travel around the city. A comfortable and “eco friendly” and not particularly expensive vehicle. Numerous electric and pedal assisted bicycles are also available. Recommended for getting around Rapperswil and around Lake Zurich areas.
Not far from the port, you will find some agencies to rent your bike. You can choose according to your tastes and offers proposed.
GETTING AROUND RAPPERSWIL BY BUS
In the city it is possible to travel by bus reaching the nerve centers of Rapperswil and Jona, including the railway stations of both municipalities ( Bahnhof). The service is provided by two separate companies: ZVV (Switzerland’s leading transport company) and Schneider Bustriebe AG. The first manages several lines including 885, 991, 992, 993 and 994 while the other, lines 621 and 622. Here is the detail:
- Line 621. Connects Rapperswil train station with Jona Buechstrasse Ost. It only runs from Monday to Friday from about 06:00 to 16:30 with only 9 trips in total.
- Line 622. It shares almost the entire itinerary of line 621, continuing for Eschenbach , Neuhaus and finally Wattwil. It runs every day, including weekends, from early morning until around 11pm. In the nights between Friday/Saturday and Saturday/Sunday, 3 night rides are guaranteed from midnight to 05:00 in the morning.
- Line 991 . Colleague Rapperswil SG, Glärnischstr. with Jona Bahnhof. Active from Monday to Sunday from approximately 05:46 until 23:46 with runs every 30′.
- Line 994. The two terminus are located at the two railway stations, for a total of 24 stops. It runs every day from 06_01 to 22:31 with runs every 30′.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS
You can buy tickets directly on board the vehicle. On the ZVV buses the price of the ticket is 2.70CHF for adults and 2.30CHF reduced. The day ticket , on the other hand, costs 5.40CHF per adult and allows unlimited travel for 24 hours from the validation of the ticket.
MOVING AROUND BY CAR AND TAXI
Getting around Rapperswil by car is not feasible. The center, mostly pedestrianized, is ideal to be explored on foot. The main points of interest are concentrated in a short radius.
The taxis are easily identifiable by the presence of the sign and the taximeter clearly visible. In the city, the service is guaranteed by a couple of private companies. The price for a ride from Rappesrwil to Jona station costs around 17CHF
