Airport Express is considered by many to be the ideal connection between the airport and the center. In our opinion, this statement is only partly true.
Having tried both solutions, we can safely say that Bus 59 Prague Airport is much more than a simple alternative.
In fact, during our vacation, having stayed in the historic center, we found it even more convenient.
Bus 59 is connected to the metro line A. If you are staying in the historic center (Staré Město) or in the Malá Strana area, the reference stations are Staromēstská (or, if you prefer, Mustek) and Malostranská.
In about 10 minutes you can reach the Nádrazí Veleslavin station, where Prague Airport Bus 59 departs.
Once you get off the metro, you will need to follow the signs, which are always clearly marked along the entire route (exits E1-E6). It will be impossible to get confused because next to the T-59 bus sign you will always find the airplane symbol and the sign “Letiste- Airport“.
The escalators will take you right outside, where bus 59 departs
Even in this case it will be impossible to get confused because the signs are quite clear. From both the T1 and T2 arrival terminals, just follow the specific signs for the buses. Just remember to follow those for bus 59 and not for the Airport Express (which also has a different pricing system and you could incur a fine).
The bus runs every day, including Sundays and holidays, from around 05:00 to midnight.
The bus is quite frequent, with runs even every 3/4 minutes during rush hour.
To use the bus and metro you will need to buy a 90-minute ticket for 40 crowns. If you carry large luggage you will have to pay a surcharge of 20 crowns. Please note that travellers up to the age of 15 travel for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
24- and 72-hour tickets are also valid
The ticket can be purchased at the machines, contactless or through the official PID Lítačka app, available for iOS and Android.
