Along the suggestive Way of Saint James, you can admire one of the best examples of Spanish Gothic. There Cathedral of Burgos it is probably one of the most beautiful in all of Spain. The Cathedral is really marvelous and evocative; a show able to excite. Every corner, every corner really leaves you breathless.
Located in the autonomous community of Castile and León, in the city of Burgos, it has been declared in the 1984 World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In fact, many of the altars, chapels and monuments located in the cathedral are of incredible historical and artistic interest. Truly an incredible and extraordinary architectural, pictorial and sculptural variety.
It was built by the will of Ferdinand III of Castile and the Bishop of Burgos. Work began in the 1221 on the remains of a former Romanesque cathedral. Not just baroque. Various artistic styles are combined in it. Only in the eighteenth century, in fact, the Cathedral has assumed its current physiognomy. A decidedly harmonious and elegant line.
Splendid the two towers that rise to over 80 meters high at the sides of the Cathedral. At their summit, jagged spiers of the fifteenth century. In the main facade, there is the beautiful Door of the Perdón with the statues representing the kings of Castile.
Inside you can admire the Port of the Sarmental. It is a splendid sculptural complex with the image of a Christ Pantocrator surrounded by the apostles and the evangelists. And, again, 19 chapels in which excellent works of goldsmith and non-gold art are kept.
From the 1919, he welcomed the remains of Rodrigo Díaz count of Bivar, better known as E, and his wife Doña Jimena.
