Budapest Public Transport Tickets

BKK is the company that manages the integrated public transport on rail and road in the city. There are numerous tickets and passes available to use the public transport of the Capital: you just have to choose the one that best suits your needs.

BUDAPEST PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS

Here, below, all the tickets and passes to travel on public transport in Budapest.

SINGLE TRIP TICKETS

  • Single Trip (Vonaljegy). It costs 450ft (1.15€) per person and can be used for the metro, buses (including night buses) and trams. It allows travel in one direction only without changes. It is not permitted to exit and re-enter with the same ticket, which must always be stamped before starting the journey. It is not valid for the funicular, boat and 100E bus. It can also be purchased on board the vehicle at a cost of 600ft (1.50€).
  • Carnet 10 Tickets (Gyüjtöjegy). Costs 4000ft (10€). This is a carnet of 10 single-trip tickets with the features listed above.
  • Airport Ticket (Repülötéri Vonaljegy). Ticket for a one-way journey WITHOUT INTERRUPTIONS on bus 100E between the centre and Budapest International Airport. Line changes are not permitted. Costs 2400ft (6€) for children 3 and older.
  • Full-fare Ferry Ticket (Teljes árú rév személyjegy). Valid for one ferry ride on line D14. Costs 170ft (0.40€) for adults, 110ft for pensioners and under 15s.
  • Buda Castle Funicular Ticket. Valid only for the funicular, allows a return journey. It costs 5000ft (12.50€) for children aged 15 and over and 2000ft (5€) for under 15s. Also available in the family version (2 adults and up to 3 children under 15) at a cost of 12000ft (30€).

BUDAPEST PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS TIME-LIMITED

Time-limited tickets allow unlimited travel on the metro, trams and buses for the indicated time. They are not valid on the 100E bus, boats and funicular. They must be validated on each means of transport on which you travel. Here is the breakdown:

  • 30 Minutes. Costs 530ft (1.33€)
  • 90 Minutes. Costs 750ft (1.90€).
  • 24 hours. Costs 2500ft (6.30€).
  • 72 hours. Costa 5500ft (13.80€)

BUDAPEST CARD is, instead, the solution that combines transport and attractions in a single solution. Available in denominations from 24 to 120 hours. It allows you to move around Budapest, making unlimited trips on public transport and accessing over 30 attractions. All the info from this link.

WHERE TO BUY BUDAPEST PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS

Tickets and passes for public transport can be purchased in paper form at over 300 automatic machines distributed in the main stations of the Capital. You can pay by credit card or in cash.

On the BUS 100E and the M1 Metro line you can buy the ticket with the PAY&GO function. Simply bring your credit card close to the reader on the vehicle to make the payment. No receipt will be issued but you can check your transaction at any time through the official Pay&GO portal.
