You can move around Bratislava by bus, trolleybus and tram. The center, relatively small, can easily be walked around. Public transportation is ideal if you want to get away from the Old City.
GETTING AROUND BRATISLAVA BY TRAM
Nine lines linking the center and the periphery. The tram is the ideal solution for getting around Bratislava. A rather efficient service with travel frequency of around 10 minutes. They are identified by a progressive number from 1 to 9, and a different color.
The service is active, every day, from 05:00 (first run) to 23:00 about (last run). The 6 and 7 lines only observe different times. 6 line, active from 06:30 to 09:00 and 15:30 to 21:00; the 7 line, active from 06:45 to 09:10 and from 14:10 to 17:25.
BUS AND FILOBUS
The road network is excellent to reach the suburbs and the most distant areas from the center. 13 trolleybus, 65 bus, 3 regional lines and 20 night buses. A truly incredible offer to move around Bratislava at any time of the day.
The trolleybuses are identified by a progressive number from 201 to 212 to which are added the 33 and 64 lines. Trams and 65 bus lines are running daily from 05:30, up to 23:00.
The Regional bus lines (525, 801 and 901) allow you to reach areas and countries outside of Bratislava (Čierna Voda, Chorvátsky Grob, Hainburg an der Donau, Rajka, Rusovce and others).
After the 23:30, the night bus line is active. The vehicles, identified by the letter N that precedes the numbering, circulate after the 23:30 up to the 04:30 of the morning. There is no surcharge for the use of night buses.
BRATISLAVA PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS
Tickets to travel on vehicles for getting around Bratislava are classified by area and time limit. In the sun areas 100 e 101 (those within the city), temporal validity is relevant; in this case, it will be necessary to buy the ticket from 2 zone for the established time.
Here are the different types of tickets:
- 2 zone / 30 minutes 1.10€.
- 3 zone / 60 minutes 1.60€.
- 4 zone / 60 minutes 2€.
- 5 zone / 90 minutes 2.50€.
- 6 zone / 90 minutes 3€.
- 7 zone / 120 minutes 3.30€.
- 8 zone / 120 minutes 3.60€.
- 9 zone / 150 minutes 4€.
- 10 zone / 150 minutes 4.50€.
- 180 minutes (all zones) 4.90€
The day tickets, on the other hand, allow unlimited rides on all buses, trolley buses and trams within zone 100 and 101 of the city (most important and touristic). The 24h version costs 4.80€; from 72h, it costs 10.80€.. Only for the 24h version, the day ticket is available for all zones. It costs 8.30€ and allows unlimited travel within 24 hours in all 10 zones.
To transport bikes, animals or medium/large luggage (over 30x40x60) it is MANDATORY to purchase, with the travel ticket, an additional 0.55€ ticket; it is valid for 3 hours from validation.
Over 62 and children aged between 6 and 15, enjoy the 50% reduction on the ticket price.
WHERE TO BUY PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKETS IN BRATISLAVA
Paper tickets can be purchased from merchants, automatic machines and points of sale that display the appropriate mark.
However, by purchasing electronic tickets through the official IMHD app (for iOS and Android) you can get a discount of up to 10% on the applied price.
