One day in Bojnice. What to do and see on holiday: Castle, zoo

One day in Bojnice

The old town and the Castle rise on a travertine rock, with a wonderful natural cave, the discovery of which dates back to 1926.

Today, the city represents one of the most important Paleolithic sites in Europe, with numerous attractions.
Between parks, gardens, caves and castles, you will have a lot to visit in one day in Bojnice.
The attractions are not far from each other and easily accessible.

WHAT TO SEE IN ONE DAY IN BOJNICE

THE CASTLE

Unmissable stop on a day visit to Bojnice, the Castle is one of the most loved and visited jewels.
There are traces of this splendid castle in documents from 1013 but, despite its age, fires and various vicissitudes, it is perfectly preserved.

Someone, entering these parts, might feel a strange feeling of deja-vu. No fear. The site has been used as a location for numerous films and television dramas. In Italy, Fantaghirò was filmed!
Furthermore, every year the Castle hosts some interesting events and festivals of international appeal. The Ghosts Festival takes place between April and May, a unique event of its kind.

One day in Bojnice

The interiors are beautiful, with majestic rooms and splendid architecture. The Golden Hall draws inspiration from the evocative Castles of the Loire. The courtyard well. The Music Room with the splendid instruments. The Baroque Chapel, and much more.
The outdoor garden houses numerous specimens, as well as the oldest Zoo in Sovacchia. The majestic King Matthias Linden is a tree that is over 700 years old!

The Castle is open from May to September, from 09:00 to 17:00; from October to April, from 10:00 to 15:00.
Break from 12:00 to 12:30.
There are two different tour itineraries with a duration of about 75 minutes each: Pálffy tour and Hunyadi tour.
Every month, there are 4/5 night visits of about 90 minutes, for groups of up to 15 people.

The ticket, for adults, costs €11 for a single itinerary and €15 for both. Reduced for over 65, €7 (one tour) and €9.50 (2 tours). Children aged 6 to 15 pay € 5 and €7. Children aged 3 to 6 pay €2 (one tour) and €3 (2 tours). Free for children up to 3 years old.

To take photos and videos, a supplement of €2 and € 5, respectively, is required.

MUZEUM PRAVEKU

The fascinating natural caves were discovered in 1926. Today, they house the Muzeum Praveku, in our opinion, a must-see during a one-day visit to Bojnice. Especially for children.

In this place you can admire the ancient stone tools, mammoths, caves, shamans and much more. One way indeed

A truly suggestive and fascinating experience in a museum that represents a pleasant discovery. One moves barefoot, just like primitive men, between paths and pebbles, large trunks and mammoth sculptures.

Very fascinating, and recommended, are the night tours, with lighted torches, in an atmosphere of the past, truly mysterious. Children will be really thrilled. They take place at dusk, when the weather conditions allow it.

The museum is open from April to 22 October, on weekends and some holidays, from approximately 10:00 to 17:00.
From June to September, it is also open from Monday to Friday.
For times and openings, we recommend that you always make sure in advance.

The adult ticket costs €6.50. Reduced, up to 18 years, €4.50. Free for children under 4 years old.

The city boasts the presence of the oldest zoological garden in Slovakia, in the large park of the Castle. To be honest, it must be said that in the whole country there are, however, only three!

The zoo is ideal for spending a few hours with your children, in the company of the animals. Nothing majestic, however, overall, a place with a decent variety of specimens.

January, February, November and December, from 09:00 to 16:00.
March and October, from 09:00 to 18:00.
From April to September, from 09:00 to 19:00.
The Butterfly Garden is open from 09:00 to 17:00.

The zoo is not allowed to enter with animals and balloons.

The adult ticket costs 8€. Children aged 4 to 15, and disabled people pay the reduced rate of €4.
Free for children under 4 years old. Info and updates available at this link, on the official website.

OTHER ACTIVITIES IN ONE DAY IN BOJNICE

Not far from the Castle is the Čajka thermal pool. Nothing to do with the Spa Bojnice is renowned for, but a fun way to spend half a day with the family. Several slides, swimming pools with hot and cold water. To keep in mind if your vacation lasts more than one day in Bojnice.

Prievidzska, and the subsequent Bojnická cesta, is the main artery connecting Bojnice with nearby Prievidza. Along the way, you will find numerous shops, groceries, and, for lovers, the inevitable McDonald’s.
Nearby, Mestsky Park is a quiet city park, ideal for strolling and relaxing. With a restaurant, rides and a minigolf, it is ideal for children and families.
