Dunnottar Castle. The most beautiful castles in Scotland. Tickets

Dunnottar Castle

For many it is one of the most beautiful and scenic castles in Scotland. One of the hidden treasures of the whole country
Perched on an imposing cliff overlooking the North Sea (which surrounds it on three sides), Dunnottar Castle is an iconic tourist destination for all visitors.

Once an impregnable fortress of one of Scotland’s most powerful families (the Marischal Earls), the Castle was also made famous for its role in saving the Scottish Crown Jewels from Oliver Cromwell’s army in the 17th century. It has also hosted illustrious personalities of the country, such as Mary Queen of Scots and William Wallace.

Today, the ruins of the castle that can be admired, in addition to exuding centuries of history, are a real paradise for tourists, photography lovers, art lovers, and not.
A truly magical place, which at sunset offers its most romantic side. At dusk, however, the most evocative and mysterious one.

The view, at 160 feet, is truly incredible, and extends over the whole area. A truly unmissable place, along with a visit to the beautiful Stonehaven and its spectacular coastline.

PRACTICAL INFO

HOW TO GET

Dunnottar Castle is located approximately 4km south of Stonehaven, just off the main A92 road, Stonehaven/Montrose.
It can be easily reached by bus, on foot and by bike, preferable means because of low environmental impact, or zero emissions. It is also possible to arrive by car (not recommended). Parking spaces are quite limited.
On foot, from the port of Stonehaven, there is a special path, extremely fascinating, which requires a minimum of physical effort (about 40 minutes of walking).
Stagecoach is the transport company that offers connections throughout the city. From downtown Barclay Street, line 107 goes to Dunnottar Junction, near the car park. In less than 20 minutes on foot you will arrive at your destination.
